The Pentagon is preparing for a longer bombardment of Syria than it originally had planned, with a heavy barrage of missile strikes followed soon after by more attacks on targets that the opening salvos missed or failed to destroy, officials said.
The planning for intense attacks over a three-day period reflects the growing belief in the White House and the Pentagon that the United States needs more firepower to inflict even minimal damage on Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces, which have been widely dispersed over the last two weeks, the officials said.

Are we on the bring of WWIII?
I think that is a serious concern and quite possible.
Al Qaeda’s Air Force
imagine the TV ads
“America’s allies in global jihad!”
Yeah....and then women will be out on the streets holding up dead babies and curing America’s military. Are they nuts?
Imagine the “collateral damage” far in excess of the chemical warfare casualties.
I think the US might want to take a look at all the warships Russia in bringing in to Syria. And I’m sure they are not there for a Syrian Boat Show.
Once the first missile is fired, the outcome cannot be certain.
Funny that Dennis Kucinich actually said that:
Kucinich: Strike on Syria Makes U.S. “Al-Qaeda Air Force”
In an interview with The Hill, former congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) said that should President Obama green-light an air strike in Syria, the U.S. military would become Al Qaeda’s air force.
This is a very, very serious matter that has broad implications internationally. And to try to minimize it by saying we’re just going to have a ‘targeted strike’ that’s an act of war. It’s not anything to be trifled with, Kucinich said, as quoted in The Hill.
Putin made it very clear
Syria: Russia will stand by Assad over any US strikes, warns Putin
President Vladimir Putin gave warning that Russia would stand with Syria if America launches military strikes against the country.
Ending the summit, Mr Putin said that world opinion was firmly against US-led intervention, adding that Russia would take Syria’s side. “Will we help Syria? We will,” he said. “We are already helping, we send arms.”
The Left is seeking a nuclear diversion from the failures of the administration
Putin made it very clear
Syria: Russia will stand by Assad over any US strikes, warns Putin
Your comment here brings to mind TR’s famous dictum: “Walk softly carry a big stick.”
It would appear that while Putin has taken TR’s words to heart, out own twice-elected leader prefers out and out saber rattling.
We deserve what we get for electing this person — and I fear that may be ruin and death for many of us if he gets his way (though I pray this entire Syria “war talk” fizzles SOON).
Exactly. And unlike Obama, Putin ain’t bluffing.
“The Left is seeking a nuclear diversion from the failures of the administration”
“Wag the dog” — but it may have severe consequences...
It's not the left this time. They are against this adventure as much as the right is. This war is being sought by Obama and Kerry, and to a lesser extent by the neocon Republicans. No one else wants it.
Can Mr. Obama Avoid Mission Creep?
..”the administration may already be engaging in mission creep by asking the Pentagon to expand the list of potential targets in Syria beyond the 50 or so previously identified. “
But the left would be organizing protests with 100,000 anti-war protestors, if a Republican president would want to get involved, while they are silent to supportive of Obama doing it. Hypocrisy of the left.
Rep. Joe Wilson Says Syria Strike Is A Ploy To Distract From Obamas Scandals
Why was there no call for military response in April? Wilson asked Secretary of State John Kerry during the hearing. Was it delayed to divert attention today from the Benghazi, IRS, NSA scandals; the failure of Obamacare enforcement; the tragedy of the White House-drafted sequestration or the upcoming debt limit vote? Again, why was there no call for military response four months ago when the presidents red line was crossed?
They’ve spread, settled and become involved in politics all over the world, including here, in the U.S.A.
The problem is that Obama made the US into a paper target, we lost all respect from everyone.
Nobody fears us. As someone said, paraphrased “It’s good if they love and fear us, but if we can’t be loved, we need to make sure we are feared”
We are the laughing stock of the world and lobbing a few missiles is not only won’t change it, but will only reinforce it.
We didn’t get involved when the Iranian people rose up against the Iranian radical Islamic tyranny...when we could have turned Iran into a democracy, and defeating radical Islam’s main supporters. We had interest in that.
But in Syria there is no US interest.
When I find myself agreeing with Kucinich... Well that’s never happened before.
“When I find myself agreeing with Kucinich... Well thats never happened before.”
I had the same reaction — I guess this just demonstrates the truth of the saying “Politics makes strange bedfellows”...
That's true. But I think the left here is just too stunned to take immediate action. Make no mistake about it. The activist left is angry with Obama. Not just disappointed, but angry.
If Obama is stupid and arrogant enough to strike Syria, the left will be in the streets. And I'll be joining them. I'll be the one holding the American flag.
Dennis the Menace and Ted Cruz agreeing on something
I have a headache now
Elections have consequences.
someone needs to post this story - it need to go viral so the public will have a heads up and maybe they won’t get away with it
“A high level source inside the military has now confirmed to us that Dyess Air Force base is actively moving nuclear warheads to the East Coast of the United States in a secret transfer that has no paper trail.”
“Senator Lindsay Graham has warned South Carolinians about the threat of a terrorist nuclear attack on the same day that our exclusive high level military intel revealed to us that nuclear warheads were being shipped to South Carolina from a major Texas airforce base under an off the record black ops transfer.”
“bummer made an offhand remark 3-4 years ago that America could survive a nuclear incident - the thought came to my mind that that was an unconscious window into his mind...a perfect way to bring on martial law - and we are shut down - the congress is shut down - food to your store is shut down -
everyone needs to start shouldint loud and clear - burn up the phone lines to your reps and let ‘em know ‘we KNOW” -
Thanks for the links — one needs to consider the consequences of any action — intended and unintended ones.
>If Obama is stupid and arrogant enough to strike Syria, the left will be in the streets.<
The left follows the MSM and the latter will come up with some excuse that Obama’s hands were tied and that he had no other recourse but to attack Syria.
You don’t seem to understand that the rebels that Obama plans to support and our lefties are on the same side. These are the guys who do not care if a mosque is built where the twin towers once stood and who do not oppose sharia law in this country.
Something that’s interesting and odd, is that the largest numbers of people in the U.S. demographic wanting to support the goal of the Iranian-Syrian-Lebanese-Russian axis are living in or around our large cities. They’ve been duped into believing that Iran will only build a couple of nukes to launch against Israel. Oh, well. They obviously didn’t take the Huns very seriously early on, either.
Unfortunately many people are very naïve...
“Elections have consequences.”
Sure does. Hopefully the Republicans will actually try to win this next time around.
But there are two kinds of lefties. The first kind are the followers of Saul Alinsky. Obama is in that group. This group is stone cold evil, and would would applaude any chaos that Obama might cause.
But there is a second, and I think larger, group of lefties. These folks consider themselves "progressives" and not "revolutionaries." They believe in unicorns and peace and brotherhood. This is the group that turned on LBJ. And this is the group that will turn on Obama.
Of course, like you said, I might just be dreaming.
This is madness and we must hope and pray that the Congress will thwart these plans. Even if Assad were guilty of the gas attacks, these measures would be totally unwise. To the extent that we cannot really know if the gas attacks are real or who was responsible, that further erodes any possible justification.
Impeachment must follow. This madness has gone too far.
I think this is related to Benghazi. I know this is pretty out there, but I think the weapons we were couriering through Benghazi were chemical weapons.I think that’s why they are going through so much trouble to hide all those CIA agents. Just dealing normal weaponsis bad, but not bad enough to justify all the trouble they are going through to cover it up. I think it was chemical weapons and I think it was designed for the rebels to use them and blame Assad and then we, meaning Obama, would run in and save the day. Only problem is he miscalculated because no one else wants to be involved over there.
Now he has to go regardless, lest the world find our chemical weapons there. He has to go for no other reason than to destroy those weapons. That’s why we are not waiting on the UN inspectors.
I realize that sounds far fetched, but I don’t put anything past those traitors in Washington
I hate to see and say it, but I never thought I would see the day when I would be rooting for Putin hoping that he will teach our socialists a thing or two, who are attempting to use Syria as a diversionary ploy from Fast and Furious, Benghazi, IRS scandal, EPA and so forth .heaven help this once Great Nation now mired in scandals and corruption.
The more unspoken the issue has become, the more plausible it reads.
IMHO, we fail to grasp a very distinct perspective of the Democrats when dealing with adversity.
We mistakenly assume they intend to control their adversaries by conquering them to change their volition or by eradicating them.
Instead, they perceive their adversaries will always exist. Their solution is not to change their volition, but simply to control them.
They think they are international power mobsters forming a syndicate of organized crime so they don’t kill one another.
Hell, I agree with that hideous Alan Grayson!!! MIGRAINE time!
how many is enough?
The same mentally ill agendas of Obozo Liar, Queeg McAinal, Kerry the Faux Vietnam hero, and congressional rats wanting to bomb Syria could apply to 9/11!
Unbelievable isn’t it? I feel the exact same way you do. The problem is how much will this affect us at home? This is going to be WWIII I bet.
Putin's statement that he will continue to sell weapons to Syria isn't going to be enough. To have any chance to deter the madman in the White House, Putin has to say and mean that he will defend Syria, and communicate that view widely to Congress and the American people. Maybe even that wouldn't work, but it is the last chance at deterrence before war.
Thanks for the great pictures with the messages!
I am sure Putin explained “the facts of life” to Obama privately — but he may not have been listening, was probably too busy getting prepped to meet with the Russian GLBT group. (He talked with Putin for 20 min, but met with the LGBT group for an hour — shows where his priorities lie)
It's quite possible they're intentionally pushing for this. The reasoning may be that WAR is their only alternative to an ECONOMY and GROWING DEBT that can not be sustained much longer.
I cannot prove this but usually when things move in a direction that defy common sense you can bet there is an ulterior motive afoot.
