(CNN) -- A man who police said was 107 years old was killed in a confrontation with SWAT officers Saturday night.

Police were called to a home in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where suspect Monroe Isadore was.

"When they arrived, they were able to determine that an aggravated assault had occurred against two people at the residence," Lt. David E. Price, a Pine Bluff police spokesman, said in a statement.

It is hard to see how it is possible for a 107 year old man warrants a SWAT Team.

Surely, there was some other option.

I realize when you fire on a police officer you expect to be shot.

But think about this, why did they not simply wait for him to come out for a potty break.

NUTS!

Did they shoot his dog first? No civilian police force ought to be allowed to have a SWAT team with all the military style equipment to play with.

Yep. Imagine 107? My grandmother lived to be 98. But the difference between that and 107 is huge.

You have to wonder what set him off. He was probably being abused/ripped off/other by the two.

One of these days a SWAT team is going to be wiped out because they really picked the wrong house...one with folks that can and will shoot back...and no one will feel any sympathy for the SWAT team

Unfortunately, too many low info voters think that there should be no scrutiny of police or law enforcement.

Is it pretty much just a universal truth that if the police come to your home, they’re not leaving without a body or someone in cuffs? It seems that’s the case anymore with any story you read like this.

An old man with a gun is barred up in his bedroom. Ever think he just wants to be left alone? Is he in there with a body or with a few kilos of cocaine? Seriously, once you get SWAT involved, they’re not leaving until every last one of them gets the chance to pull the trigger and pump some rounds into someone or something. They’re just like the bullies in high school. You might not have lunch money, you might ride the nicer bike, you might have the cooler-looking bookbag, but that bully isn’t leaving you alone. At some point, that bully is going to be made to look like a fool, and instead of beating you up, because they know they’ll get in trouble, they’ll just pull your pants down in front of everyone to make a point. In most cases, the SWAT version of a “pantsing” is killing your pet.

In all seriousness, FReepers, pay attention here. Law enforcement is being conditioned to not care if you’re 17 or 107. They’re being conditioned to shoot you regardless of how you look. This isn’t Hogan’s Alley shooting anymore. They’re going to shoot you, because Big Gov says you’re a terrorist for believing you’re a free person. They’re going to shoot you, because leaving without firing a shot isn’t in their creed. Americans are becoming prisoners in their own homes, and now we can’t even protect our homes against no-knock raids by paramilitary groups in the middle of the night.

When did I wake up in Mexico? Does anybody remember what it means to be American anymore?

Or they could have waited 30 minutes and he would have taken a nap.

I remind our local constable how silly the black police uniforms are. They are HOT and Texas has been really HOT for the past 2 years. But this summer was better.

At one time the local police wore Kaki cotton uniforms. They were cool. The state police and county sheriff department still wear Kaki.

The whole SWAT thing is insane.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SWAT

“Some sources state that the first use of “SWAT” as an acronym for “Special Weapons and Tactics” was the Special Weapons and Tactics Squad established by the Philadelphia Police Department in 1964.[2]”

“A more prominent early SWAT team was established in the Los Angeles Police Department in 1967, by Inspector Daryl Gates.”

Not understanding the whole cops shooting dogs thing recently.

10-15 yrs ago it was the big thing to prosecute a perp if he shot a police dog just like if he shot a real cop.

So is it justifiable homicide if I kill a cop in an because he shot my dog?

We are now in Mexico. I just spent time with a group of 10 people with about 16 or 17 university degrees amongst them, and the general attitude was “there is nothing we can do about it”. Whether its LEO thuggery, the NSA or the IRS, fatalism is rampant, just like in Islam, where everything is Allah’s will, so why bother trying.

I ask myself that every morning when I read the news, then I look out my front door and this is still Texas where I live. But again, I live in the middle of the Big Nothing, between Lubbock and Ft. Worth. hee hee hee

I think they should turn the term SWAT into DEATH SQUAD...
It seems every time they use SWAT, someone is going to die.
They either shoot you or burn you. You have no rights when SWAT comes calling.

The comments are hysterical! "Oh my god it's a 107 year old with a gun! That's like being level 107! We need a swat team, helicopter with sniper, I need guns in those windows across the street, and a perimeter 3 blocks on either side. Start knocking on doors and getting these families to saftey. Johnson, contact the national guard, see if we can get a predator on loan in case he tries to flee. Tell them we really need a missile on the rack, and a relief force ready to go just in case. Contact the president. Tell him to put Syria on hold. We got an angry 107er with a gun and he's not taking no for an answer! And just in case we might want to clue Tony Stark in case this is too much to handle."

My respect for law enforcement goes down every day. You would think that they would take the time to find out who they are after. This death seems senseless to me.

Twenty years ago an old fellow in my small CT town told the tax collector he wasn’t paying his property tax and he was armed. He holed up in his house and wouldn’t come out. The town ignored him and made no effort to interfere with the few friends and family members who brought him groceries.

6-7 months later he surrendered, the house was sold, taxes paid and he moved in with relatives. No one hurt.
