Climate Change Leaves Hares Wearing The Wrong Colors
NPR ^ | September 8, 2013 | By Lauren Sommer

Posted on 09/08/2013 6:46:14 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

The effects of climate change often happen on a large scale, like drought or a rise in sea level. In the hills outside Missoula, Mont., wildlife biologists are looking at a change to something very small: the snowshoe hare.

Hares switch color in the spring and fall in response to light, when the days get longer or shorter. But that means they're at the mercy of the weather. If the snow comes late, you get a white hare on brown ground.

Scott Mills of North Carolina State University leads the research. He says they're finding that mismatched hares die at higher rates. That's a concern for the threatened Canada lynx, which mainly eats these hares.

"It's a picture that paints a thousand words," Mills says. "It's a very clear connection to a single climate change stressor."

The climate changes twice each year. We must stop the annual climate change to protect a few oddball hairs.

But wait, that will kill the majority!

I'm wondering how these mismatched hares might be dying? Could it be that those with the wrong color coat are being eaten? By, say, Canadian Lynxes? And that is bad for the Lynxes how?

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls our climates.

3. The earth is a rock.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Earth's climate has been naturally changing for far longer than the Hare has existed.

But somehow the Hares are still with us.

Good ol’ NPR and an NC State democrat still beating the global warming drum.

Here is a partial copy and paste of another piece on Free Republic this morning.

Global warming? No, actually we’re cooling, claim scientists A cold Arctic summer has led to a record increase in the ice cap, leading experts to predict a period of global cooling. By Hayley Dixon 9:55AM BST 08 Sep 2013 Comments204 Comments There has been a 60 per cent increase in the amount of ocean covered with ice compared to this time last year, they equivalent of almost a million square miles. In a rebound from 2012’s record low an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores....

The bobcat/hare population cycle is something I learned about at a very early age in Michigan. I couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 years old when I learned it.

Its common knowledge, when hare numbers are high, bobcat numbers rise, when bobcat numbers rise, hare numbers fall followed by falling bobcat numbers.

NPR should research the city it "studies" before it makes such global warming scare stories. Missoula is on the leeward side of a mountain range, which sucks up almost all of the snowfall, and leaves Missoula with little. Here's the data

How Much Snow Normally Accumulates in Missoula?

For about half of winter days, Missoula has at least an inch of snow on the ground.

Snow mainly accumulates during January, the month when the snowpack is most likely to top ten inches. Typically on eight days in January and another three to five in December and in February, the snow covering Missoula gets to five or more inches.

November and March average only 4 days a year with only one inch on the ground or more. deep.

Snowshoes have a 10 year cycle of them being everywhere and then being scarce. We use to hunt them in Alaska and Montana and yes they were much easier to see if a big warm spell came through. That was 30 years ago. 11 years ago in Montana you couldn’t go anywhere without running them over. Last year we could hardly find one and this year they are coming back fast.

Great article here to help understand Gods creation, earth and the cycle of boom and bust and not a “natural balance” the lefties want people to believe. It’s happening now with the moose on the central Kenai Peninsula. All the forest burns matured and now there is no food. Hence, no moose. http://bio.fsu.edu/~james/krebs.pdf

They’re opposed to evolutionary pressure in the present.

The present must be static and unchanging. Any variation from presumed averages is not tolerated as an affront to orthodoxy. Statistical variation is cause for much tearful handwringing, fiery sermons and orchestrated attacks upon nonbelievers. Heretics must be converted or silenced.

But, they just love it in the past as an end run around deity. There can be no other god before the great and powerful No God.

And, they really love it in the future as a scary bogeyman that can only be defeated by massive socialist wealth redistribution schemes and the killing off of large numbers of heretics.

These climateers are really groveling for some actual “fact” that the earth is warming. First, it was the polar bears, then the “rising seas” and melting of the glaciers...all of that has fallen flat, so it’s on to the snow bunnies.

Maybe, it’s been so abnormally “cool” the triggers that cause the white coat have just got an early start...who knows. Either way, it’s hardly evidence of anything. But the NPR children are busy playing “radio” and need something to attract and hold their parents attention, so they’ll go with snow bunnies.

What next? Global warming causes Big Bird to shed his feathers, or Kermit to turn purple. They will pick any anomalies to try and make their useless point.

Canadian Lynxes in Montana? This means war! Canada must immediately recall their lynxes or we’ll start attacking with American gophers!
If the rabbits around Missoula are changing color, it’s more likely that it’s due to all the Grecian Formula and Clairol hair coloring being washed into their water supply from the professors at the University of Montana.

What's the difference between the welfare class and today's scientific class?

Answer, they both survive on the same government grants, with the grants just couched in different terms according to the social strata each is in. They both exist on the redistribution of wealth extracted by force from others.......and too many become parasites, expecting more and more.

The scientists think they're so educated, sophisticated and better than anyone else as they cash in on their government largesse just same as the welfare class cashes in on theirs.

One thing we know, too many scientists and pseudo-scientists infesting taxpayer-supported universities and government laboratories are leeches and leftists who have way too much time on their hands allowing them to repeatedly pursue wild-hare projects that signify nothing of value.

Being from west texas which had both hares and rabbits those cycles were 7-10 years. Most years are average rainfall but some wet years or 2 consecutive wet years and then there are the dry years.

Rabbits, hare, field mice, quail, etc can explode or collapse. Followed by the bobcats and coyotes. There is/was a lot of dryland cotton farming in that area so those creatures called yellow cotton bales can explode and collapse with the rainfall also.

When the hawks migrate in from a cool wet summer up north to a drought year in texas a large population of hawks will collapse quickly.

For many years I recreated on Weyerhauser timberlands in Ark. When they stopped grazing those lands it was amazing how fast the rabbit and quail population exploded.

Here in MT when the rabbits collapse there are always a ton of pheasant. Anywhere with water and fields of wheat they are everywhere so the coyotes, foxes, hawks & cats just change their menu. That’s why we harvest all but the hawks. They really decimate the hens.
