Skip to comments.Robert Reich Blames Kerry for Syria Fiasco on his Facebook Page

The driving force behind the folly of bombing Syria is Secretary of State John Kerry. Im told Chuck Hegel has strong reservations, as do the Pentagons top generals. But Kerry has no reservations at all, and has convinced the President to stake much of his second-term presidency on it. Why? Its possible, of course, that Kerry honestly believes that a punitive military strike against Assad is necessary, and that the benefits of such a strike would outweigh the potential costs. But I suspect something else is going on. Kerry is an intelligent man, but he has a fatal flaw. He craves the limelight. He wants to be in the center of the action and attention. Over the years I heard again and again from his Senate colleagues that Kerry grandstanded and wanted all the credit, said things that would get him on the evening news, pushed too fast and too far in order to make his mark. Recently he seemed to be making progress getting the Israelis and Palestinians back to the table, but perhaps he sensed that the incipient talks would drag on forever, and needed a new cause.
Forty years ago John Kerry called for an end to the Vietnam War but in his public pronouncements this past week he has sounded eerily like Robert McNamara in that tragic time urging that America show resolve, that our credibility is at stake, that our enemies are watching, that we mustnt back down. These were not then, and they are not now, reasoned arguments; they are exhortations. Kerry is on the warpath. The President is ultimately responsible, of course, but I fear he is listening mainly to the loudest voice in the room. And that loud voice is channeling loud voices from America's past -- voices that have led us seriously awry.
How can he reach the keyboard?
Sounds like Kerry wants to go all Genghis Khan on Syria.
He’s just trying to cover for Obama by blaming it all on Kerry. It would be racist for him to think a black Prez would ever start a war against “brown people.”
I believe one nickname for the former MA Senator was “liveshot” because he gravitated to any camera in the area.
You see that git in Congress who told Bill Press that she does not want to go into Syria, but to save Obama the embarrassment of a failure with Congress will probably support it.
Why the long face Johnny ?
Hillary got all the easy regime overthrows it seems.
Argggg. First I notice I am starting to agree with Putin, and now I find myself in agreement with that old mini-commie Robert Reich. It is all very disturbing. I am sure if this goes South, which it will because there are so many ways for it to do so, Obama will leave Kerry twisting in the wind. “Not one American life and not one cent of American treasure.”
"Kerry is an intelligent man. . . ."
“But I suspect something else is going on.”
Kerry may also be heavily invested in munition/artillery stock. I understand they, munition/artillery businesses, are ‘chomping at the bit’ for a war.
This didn’t start in John Kerry’s brain. There’s a video here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjiBahVR6Do showing WH flunky McDonough promising that US aid to the Syrian rebels will expand. “Will expand.”
That gas attack in August was very convenient for obama. Though he’s probably going to skip the bombing and just send alQ more of our money. A “compromise” with Congress.
I that “liveshot” was Chuck-U Schumer.
Kerry is no longer ranting against America from the podium with Jane Fonda. He still may be a Left-wing POS but he has matured and sees the world a tad bit more realistically, even if he sees it from his yacht. Add this to the fact that he wants to be President in 2016 and you get the picture, Kerry vs. Hilliary.
Kerry is running for president again. Count on it.
Obama is more than a potted plant in this situation IMO. Look at this pattern: Mubarak, Ghadafi, and now Assad. Who benefits from Obama’s actions?
That was exactly what I thought while reading every word of the article, and pondering the reason it was written.
That, and that Kerry is being prepped for a trip Down Under (the Bus).
Obama’s mouth created this “credibility problem”, and now he is doubling down by saying we must attack Syria to send a signal to Iran. So, an attack on Syria is an attack on Iran by proxy? Heck of a job, Barkie.
Kerry was a communist then and is one now, unless obama has had him convert to islam.
Debatable at best....
Ever since this Syria business started, every cable news channel, and every other news outlet has been interviewing former military officers, former cabinet officials, retired congressmen, retired senators, and anyone else they can find to get their opinion on this issue. I find it very interesting that no one has interviewed Hillary, despite the fact that she was the Secretary of State throughout most of the Syrian civil war. If Hillary thought it would help her 2016 campaign, she would have her face in front of every camera she could find. Instead, she has been staying as far away from this issue as she can.
I’m sure Schumer is just as bad and may have the same exact nickname. Here’s a thread about Kerry:
Saving the reputation of dear leader is far more important than risking a world war.
The Left has turned deflection of blame into an art form. Whereas they blamed Bush for everything from AIDS to hemmorhoids, they rush to coddle Obuttwipe as if he’s a bullied child, even to the point of American lives at stake. It’s astonishing.
Hillary issued a statement in support of Obama via an unnamed spokesperson. Maybe later she will TRY to deny that she supported Obama but why does she current allow her support (via anonymous spokesperson) to stand?
Assumes facts not in evidence.
I must go check out this article on DU..the O worshippers are surely blaming Kerry for this..
In truth, some of them must be paid by Obama as they are blaming Bush and the Republicans.
I admit I haven't seen Hillary's statement, but I'm willing to bet it's a very generic, very tame expression of support for Obama, one that will leave her with sufficient wiggle room if things go bad.
TERAYZAH, BRING ME ANOTHER GIN AND TONIC!
Clinton supports the presidents effort to enlist the Congress in pursuing a strong and targeted response to the Assad regimes horrific use of chemical weapons, the adviser said in a statement.
She had to throw that in real fast to keep up her street cred...or “Keepin’ it Real”... We all know what that is code word for....Race trumps Jesus.
I was thinking Botox and fillers, too. But, I'm wondering if he has been on steroids since the face will usually blow up like his has.
But, I'm really in the Botox and fillers crowd for now.
What I don't understand, though, is why he didn't get his nose shaped a bit...and enough lip fillers to look like a duck (think Lisa Rinna/Meg Ryan)!
Kerry's face is a mess. It looks like a Halloween mask.
TERAYZAH, BRING ME ANOTHER GIN AND TONIC!
For me, agreeing with Reich is more disturbing than agreeing with Putin. Reich is a pompous little twit; Putin is a man of accomplishments. I figure whenever the far left and the far right agree on something, the "middle" must have really messed things up.
Obama will leave Kerry twisting in the wind
Everybody seems to be missing this aspect. Obama didn't want Kerry as SoS....he was forced on him after the Susan Rice rejection. It's Kerry who has put himself in a lose/lose situation. If it passes, the inevitable escalation will be blamed on him. If it fails, Obama can lose confidence in Kerry and be rid of him. It's almost Shakesperean how ego has gotten in the way of intellect with Kerry on this one.
Another line of reasoning: Why would the traditional dems want Obama to succeed? They need to put Obama's people back on the plantation and retake the Democratic Party from them. Obama has done so much that is not in their interests or agenda and the mainstream dems risk losing their party, just as us conservatives have lost the Republican Party to the RINOs. Just a thought.
Gotta wonder if an angry Kerry will try to drag Hillary down with him by declaring she fully supports the resolution on Syria.
It is likely that Obama, Kerry and Clinton will ultimately win big. After Congress blocks military action, Assad will ramp up use of chemical weapons until it becomes intolerable to the Europeans who will then come frantically to Obama’s side. There is a certain fermentation time for this to happen. Just like in Kosovo...
“Kerry is an intelligent man”
Hell, he couldn’t find his butt with both hands if a five-foot pole was jammed in it!
oh please let it be so
and let the mess he gets us into in Syria be part of his campaign
but heyyyy, what about “the sheriff?”
That really smart foreign policy experienced guy who supposed to balance inexperienced barry- Joe thinks he is owed the presidency next and has just been “Biden” his time
speaking of Jane- has she come out yet in support of bombing Syria? Is she gonna go over and pose with the “rebels” beheading some Christians or something?
Hillary be MIA
but then she DID rent a summer beach house in the Hamptons for $200,000 a month
so let her finish her hard earned vacation, you sexists!
Now that things aren’t working out too well for the POS, a fall guy must be found, and Kerry is the man.
But, the larger point as to exactly what is driving this road to war is not clear. Are there other insane people behind the curtain (banksters, internationalists) controlling 0bama’s every move? Or is it really just 0bama and his obsessive hate of America, nurtured by an upbringing of communist, atheistic and anti-American propaganda?
I stopped reading right there.
putin and reichhhhhhhhhh... all of the hard core commies are turning against the gay one.
GOOD! We need the comic relief in America.
I meant to include this. Remembering back it was just hilarious when lurch asked, “Can I get me a hunt’n license in here”.... or when he had aids releasing birds in the brush so kerry could shoot them... or when he “was before it before he was against it”... and his para-sailing and Thurston Howell III lifestyle... and a wife drunk on rum soaked raisins... the Swifties... (including 19 Medal of Honor recipients) wrote a book detailing the service of a liar, cheater and coward. Good times!
