Fears of wounding Obama weigh heavily on Democrats ahead of vote
The Hill ^ | Sept 7, 2013 | Mike Lillis and Erik Wasson

The prospect of wounding President Obama is weighing heavily on Democratic lawmakers as they decide their votes on Syria.

Obama needs all the political capital he can muster heading into bruising battles with the GOP over fiscal spending and the debt ceiling.

Democrats want Obama to use his popularity to reverse automatic spending cuts already in effect and pay for new economic stimulus measures through higher taxes on the wealthy and on multinational companies.

But if the request for authorization for Syria military strikes is rebuffed, some fear it could limit Obama's power in those high-stakes fights.

Some said the GOP has shown little indication it will advance Obama’s agenda even after his reelection, so a Syria failure would do little damage.

Boo-Hoo! My heart bleeds. (/s)

I would love to see the Republicans take over the Senate and control both houses of Congress!

Obama wounded himself.

For me personally, I cannot support this Syria debacle after the way Obama handled Ben Ghazi. He lied to us and the world. He put a poor Christian in jail for a video. He refused to rescue our Ambassador, a State Department worker and two former Navy SEALs. There is no way I trust him with Syria. NO EFFING WAY!

OATH OF OFFICE FOR CONGRESS AND SENATE:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

ADDENDUM TO OATH OF OFFICE FOR DEMOCRATS:
Unless it is inconvenient or disagreeable to me personally, to the democrat party, or to a democrat president.

The entire federal government is politically wounded beyond the point of repair.

The country may be as well.

So in short, Democrats would vote for war if it meant they could raise taxes on Americans. Got it.

As the article indicates, there will be Democrats who will vote for the Syrian attack out of fear of weakening Obama’s Presidency, though they would not otherwise cast such a vote.

I hope, on the other hand, that Republicans will bear the same thing in mind. Defeat Obama on this issue, and his domestic agenda is in serious trouble. It could make a critical difference with respect to the 2014 elections, as well.

As important as the vote on Syria is (tell me again — what United States interests would be served by injecting ourselves into a civil war with at least four armed organizations?), the implications are much bigger. The Republicans have a golden opportunity to confer lame duck status on Obama for the rest of his term. I hope they don’t blow it.

The prospect of wounding President Obama is weighing heavily on Democratic lawmakers as they decide their votes on Syria.

The prospect of Obama surviving a wound by a sword (conflict, war, war of words, et al) is a more ominous possibility. He already "won" reelection, so obviously the dark side has been working overtime.

That's my fear as well. Say he doesn't get the support in Congress and doesn't launch his strike on Syria. Will he be twice as quick to resort to a military solution the next time just to show he's still relevant?

Why anyone would trust Obama as commander in chief after he intentionally let 4 Americans die in Benghazi then lied about it, told his staff to lie about and sends blacked out memos to the investigation, is just flat-out stupid. Where was he as CIC during the Benghazi attack? Why won’t he say? Where will he be while we are bombing Syria? Playing cards with Reggie. This man has no idea how to do anything. Can’t believe any congressman would trust him to do what’s right for American servicemen after Benghazi.

Well he sure as heck is not on our side.

To make things worse, and a little off topic, he has been spying on us since 2011. People are wondering why Petreaus is doing what he is doing? Blackmail! You wonder why the Feds missed the Boston Terrorist Attack? They were too darn busy spying on useful tools then they were on our enemies.

What the hell!! Obama got himself in this mess... because he’s been protected from all the rest of his messes and he thinks he’s invincible. STOP protecting this guy! He’s destroying the country.. no need to worry about what voting him down would do.. it’s already been done by him!

He is still blaming everyone but himself. I found that last one so outrageous that I figured he wouldn’t get by with it.. but from what I saw from Fox, they just chuckled. This isn’t funny! The world is laughing at us... let him take the heat.. it’s all his!

Either Boehner or Cantor said that if it looks like the House will vote against authorization for military intervention in Syria, that they may choose not to vote at all, because they don't want to embarrass Obama.

That's an 'in-your-face' surrender to the left by our so-called Republican leadership. I think laughership is a better word for them. They'll do anything, and betray anyone, to protect Obama's hide.

0bama is doing some serious polling right now, but it isn’t Congress, it’s his media accomplices. It’s doubtful if even they can turn an 80% (at least) disagreement into a 50% standoff in the short time they have, but they can at least agree to ignore or marginalize the outrage that is likely when he gets the war he wants from a Congress too cowardly to deny it.

Did you see the news that he was over an hour late to the G-8 Summit meeting the other day?

Funny how he's always on time for golf, White House parties, fundraisers, and daytime talk shows. America has never seen a such a gagworthy putz hold the office of President.
