W.H. defends Syria strike: "We learned our lesson" in Iraq

(CBS News) The United States "learned our lesson" in Iraq, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said Sunday on "Face the Nation," making the case for why a limited military strike in Syria won't escalate into a repeat of the nearly nine-year war.

"The president opposed Iraq because he knew it was an inchoate mission with unplanned for consequences, unbudgeted for costs, and we saw the result of that," McDonough said. "And that's why the president undertook the effort that he did with our military leadership to end that war."

Lawmakers remain split as they head into a vote this week on whether to approve President Obama's request for limited military involvement in Syria amid mounting evidence that Syrian President Bashar Assad used chemical weapons against his own people. Concern about engaging in the country's two-year-old civil war is "understandable," McDonough said

"It is important to recognize that we need to be disciplined to not allow the mission to creep, not allow ourselves to be pulled into the middle of this," McDonough said. "We're not talking about government, we're not talking about occupation... we're talking about very consequential, targeted action to reinforce a prohibition against these weapons."

McDonough said the administration is "working this very aggressively" in Congress - "this is not an empty exercise." But he has "every confidence" that given the intelligence - and video of the attack, which killed almost 1,500 civilians - they'll muster enough support: "If they want to hold Assad to account for carrying out this attack using poison gasses, chemical weapons to kill upwards of 400 children," he said, "then they have to vote yes on this resolution."

What...epic projection.

And what’s ironic Saddam gassed his people and Obama’s people still speak of opposing that war.

Obama’s delusional lies explain why for me personally, I cannot support this Syria debacle. The way Obama handled Ben Ghazi is despicable. Obama lied to us and the world for weeks on end about the video and then went so far as to arrest and put in jail that poor Coptic Christian. Worst of all he refused to rescue our Ambassador, a State Department worker and two former Navy SEALs. There is no way I trust him with Syria.

This proves that Obama is just trying to cover his worthless ass. All he will do is fire the missiles into a dump somewhere, declare victory and bring all the ship’s out before anyone can do anything. He will say See I told you no boots on the ground

BO has proved that he will refuse to help American servicemen as in Benghazi. He has proved that he is a liar and will tell his staff to lie as well. Where will he be while the attacks are happening? Same place he was during Benghazi which is unknown? Will he be playing cards with Reggie Love? What lies will he and Susan Rice tell when things get way out of control in Syria? Who will he blame it on? Obama can’t be trusted as CIC. He doesn’t have the gonads for it and won’t support our own.

No, they learned nothing about Iraq, because they only know the straw man of Iraq, or at least, that’s the only Iraq they talk about.

Thanks Sub-Driver.

Remember when we talked about the character of a man and whether he has the character to be President of the Untied States of America? Since the Clinton years, character has been ignored. Now we find out why character is so very important. Obama’s character is flawed to the point that his presidency an EPIC FAIL for not only us but the world.

It’s not only his character, but who he was raised by and mentored by(rev. Wright) McCain was too scared to reveal the Marxist upbringing of BO and now we are all paying the price. A liar is not a leader. BO wrote his own bio in the early 90’s stating he was born in Kenya. He was lying then or lying now. Which is it? Why would no one ask? He’s been a liar his entire life and it would have been nice for people to know this before he was elected.

"The president opposed Iraq because he knew it was an inchoate mission with unplanned for consequences, unbudgeted for costs, and we saw the result of that,"

You mean results like:
1. The end of sanctions that killed over 500,000 children and teens during the Clinton years.
2. The destruction of tens of thousands of AQ and sympathizers.
3. The intelligence that lead straight to Bin Laden, giving Obama his only real success.

I am sure they either knew or were in denial about Zero.

A lot of them like some relatives of mine wanted to make history by voting for a black man.

Well they got someone who will make history by possibly starting World War III. Zero did many things that will make history.

Others probably felt white guilts and did not want to appear racist.

Zero will never be thrown out of office. No harm will ever come to him. Nobody will challenge him in this country.

Why? Because he is black.

You can take that to the bank.

What "lesson"? Bush had incontrovertible proof that Saddam gassed his own people at Halabja and elsewhere. 0bama doesn't even have that.

The lesson that needs to be learned here is that the spin won't work, and that a celebrity President cannot take the country to war simply because he ran his mouth off and got called on it.

The President and his administration have obviously NOT learned the necessary lessons from their bizarre policies, lies and screw ups in Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Libya, Israel, Afghanistan, Jordan, Poland , Venezuela, Honduras, Tunisia, and many places in between.

We, the American people, however have seen Obama’s performance in these countries and WE have learned our lesson.

That lesson is that the Obama Administration cannot be trusted in any and all foreign policy matters in general, and that they are incapable of acting in America's interests and they incompetent beyond comprehension when it comes to military and war related matters, so to trust them with military action of any type is inviting the worst form of disaster.

That's the reason why 89% of Americans are opposed to Obama’s desperation for Syrian military intervention.

Ironically Obama has, for the first time, fulfilled his promise to be a uniter.

To unite 89% of the American public to agree on anything is close to impossible.

I'm sick of hearing this asshole take credit for ending the Iraq war. He didn't end the war but he did screw up the peace by abandoning Iraq. Besides, it's not Iraq we are worried about. It's the credibility and judgment of a lying fool who already screwed to Egypt, Libya and Iran.
