We used to know that sailors often regretted the stupid tattoos they got while drunk. Now we allow stupid kids to have their necks and faces tattooed and when they find out they can’t find a job, they regret it. What a bunch of maroons we Americans have turned out to be.
When I see a tattoo, the first thing I think is “Here’s Your Sign.”
When I enlisted, I was advised by an old Chief that if I insisted on getting a tattoo, get one that read "Mother." I didn't get one. I knew if I did I'd eventually regret it.
Last month, I came across that the future King George V got a tat in Japan when he was in the RN, around 1880. Lion and Dragon, iirc.
