http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/09/09/20399319-russia-proposes-syria-put-weapons-under-international-control-in-attempt-to-avert-attack?lite

Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, told reporters that he had conveyed the idea to Syria at talks in Moscow and expected “a quick and, I hope, a positive answer.” Syria publicly welcomed the idea, but a senior White House official told NBC News that it was no more than a delay tactic.

(snip)

The Syrian foreign minister, Walid al-Moualem, accused Obama of backing terrorists and invoked Sept. 11. Sunni Muslim extremists allied with al Qaeda are among the rebels fighting to overthrow Assad, a member of the Alawite sect, a Shiite offshoot.

“We are asking ourselves how Obama can ... support those who in their time blew up the World Trade Center in New York,” said at a press conference with Lavrov, his Russian counterpart, in Moscow.

Lavrov said there was enough evidence to show that the rebels fighting Assad have chemical weapons themselves.

Sounds like someone has been reading the many replies/posts on FR noting that al Qaeda would be getting its own air force and navy if Obozo liar got his way.

Below is a snip from one of my replies over the past week plus:

“If Obozo Liar decides to attack the Syrian regime, he has ensured – for the very first time in history – that the United States will be on the same side as al-Qaeda.
Quite an alliance! The Islamic thugs/serial killers, who slaughtered thousands of innocent Americans on 9/11, will then be fighting alongside the very nation whose innocents they so cruelly murdered almost exactly 12 years ago.”

let’s see...

have the rebels fire chem weapons at israel?

have the rebels fire chem weapons at russia?

never report that the deal was actually offered, then start bombing saying ‘we never got that in writing’?

claim the whole thing was 0’s idea?

worst case: just set something off here, then blame Syria.

Russia seized the diplomatic initiative Monday with a plan for Syria to head off the threat of US military strikes by putting its chemical weapons under international control.

The move by Moscow, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad’s most powerful international ally, threatened to overshadow US President Barack Obama’s push to win support for punitive action.

Checkmate is right....who would have ever believed Putin would be the Leader in Diplomatic Solutions!

Assad trusts Russia far and above the US....relationships matter to Assad...he has time and again said it’s basically the ‘bullying approach’ of the US that continually gets in the way of diplomatic solutions....and Obama has continually done just that.

Now the ball is in Obamas court....how to save face will be foremost....as it has been all along.
