I came close to living it more than a few times. Any more I truly believe the worst thing in the world is a crusading social worker.

I’m in favor of old-fashioned orphanages, and don’t know why the left so opposes them. An orphanage would be a draw in the community for all kinds of well-supervised volunteerism...is there even a private orphanage in business anywhere in the US? I don’t mean some foster home, I mean an institution connected with an established charity or church. Anybody know of one?

I actually meant I was a foster kid.

After I graduated college, for a brief moment I thought being a social worker I could help some kids.

I was told because I have been in foster care, I would be to sympathetic to their plight, and was rejected for the job.

The left opposes orphanages because it’s not so seasy to avoid scrutiny when the kids are concentrated in one place. When you’ve got them dispersed around the community they’re less noticeable and that makes it easier to hide the abuses that go on at the hand of government.

Your problem was that you have a heart and you’re honest and the other social workers frown on that kind of thing.

HOST: All right. So how did you find your son?
BRUNO: I swapped him.
AUDIENCE MEMBER 1: You swapped him?
AUDIENCE MEMBER 2: What? Swapped the baby for what?
BRUNO: For an iPod.
AUDIENCE MEMBER 2: What?
BRUNO: Not just any iPod. One that was, like, limited edition, red. A U2 iPod. Heard of it?

Amen to your posts! IMO social services are the most evil of all government agencies and by far the most communistic in nature.
To those parents using the public school systems, watch for the “group” sessions the social worker runs with the students.
In our school district, the parents have to specifically opt out of these programs in a written statement. They use this program to obtain all kinds of information on the family under the guise of “anti-bullying” jargon.

I agree with you. There are older people still alive today who were raised in orphanages and actually remember them fondly. Orphanages do not have to be evil, Dickensian type places. They can be done right.

Really fascinating article, thanks for posting the whole thing.

I remember a few years ago hearing Dr. Laura, after airing a horror story about an adoption from Russia, telling her audience not to adopt from there — precisely because she’d heard so many horror stories of Russian adoptions gone wrong.

Well, Putin put an end to it so it’s a moot point.

Blood ties, it turns out are important, when it comes to the raising of children. Who knew?

Maybe, but not essential. Commitment is. If you can't have that without blood ties, so be it. Many do. Our Creator gives us opportunities, we do with them what we will. His help is there, for the asking. It is a question of putting ego aside and giving of yourself, and not giving up.

Makes sense, we would not want to hire any people that have first hand knowledge of the thing they are controlling.

Which also seems to be the guiding philosophy of the current administration.

I personally know THREE african adoptions to well meaning white parents that went completely sour and they had to place the child somewhere else before their own families imploded.

The key items in this story:

little or no government scrutiny

lawless marketplace

bypass the government

You're being set up. If real crimes occurred then prosecute. No parent gets a pass from child endangerment laws, rape, or physical abuse, etc.

The truth is that, at least in Illinois, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has hundreds of horror stories every year where government agents failed to take action or improve a situation. Illinois drove religious adoption agencies out of business because they wouldn't place children with homosexual couples.

We shouldn't fall for this game. Demand prosecution of abusive parents, but don't pretend that government oversight would be any cure.
