Syria: We “welcome” Russia’s proposal to turn over our chemical weapons

He turned the ball over underneath his own basket and now here’s the easy lay-up.

Maybe the new White House strategy is to lose so much U.S. credibility through Obama and Kerry sounding like morons that Congress has no choice but to support bombing in order to get some of it back. Proposed White House sales pitch: “Vote yes and we’ll shut up.”

Hours earlier, in London, Secretary of State John F. Kerry sketched out a similar transfer-of-control scenario, then dismissed it, after being asked by a reporter whether there was anything that Assad could do to avoid an attack. “Sure, he could turn over every bit of his weapons to the international community within the next week, without delay,” Kerry said. “But he isn’t about to.”

Sure sounds to me like they are going through with it no matter how Congress votes.

Kerry is nuts. I think Obama is trying to back out of this, tearing our credibility to shreds with him, and Kerry really badly wants to go to war.

Obama’s red line will prove to be as internationally damaging to this country as no WMDs in Iraq was.

Take the deal and blunt our moronic representatives.

Personally, I couldn’t care less if you guys kill each other with chess or traditional arms.

I’m not into the morality of it all.

Have at it.

I'm far from sure President You Didn't Build That's red line fiasco is going to hurt America; I'm very sure, by contrast, it's already made YDBT one of the world's preeminent laughingstocks. I'm no one's idea of a Putin fan, but will be neither surprised nor disappointed if he ends up emerging from this wretched hodgepodge the moral and intellectual winner. As for Kerry: the very kindest, most polite thing I can think to say about him is he's a pile of dog obama on a public sidewalk.

Ok, so the charade continues. The media will back off thinking that the chemical weapons are gone, but they won’t be. Will the chemical weapons hot potato move to yet another country or will they hide them in Syria with a bevy of inspectors looking in all the wrong places?

I don’t think they can take the deal. Qatar and Saudi want the oil and natural gas pipelines to go across Syria and the Russians and Syria (Assad) are not going to allow it. His Arrogance and ship of fools will be looking for any method to get us into it (or at least enough to topple Assad).

Kerry may have to resign after this fiasco. Then again, he could pull a McCain and stay even though everyone hates him.

Hillary didn't admit to resigning after Benghazi, even though she lied, disappeared for a while, fell and hit her head, etc....

Kerry, like Obama, doesn't feel the shame of failure. If at first you don't succeed, try again as you "lurch" into the future.

So is this the gas that Russia moved from Iraq to Syria pre-2003 invasion, or the gas that Russia transported more recently for Syria, or is Russia just holding on to stuff it originally gave to Syria, or what? Russia is being too cute by half on all of this. No one seems to know who manufactured the Sarin gas used a yeae ago and then more recently. Was it from the House of Saud, or other sources?

I read an analysis / opinion today that said “likely” targets for a limited strike would be Syrian air defenses. Really? What genius came up with that? The rebels have an air force that is being thwarted by these defenses? Either the guys doing the analysis are idiots or obama really wants to hit air defenses meaning he’s an idiot. Or they want to hit them because this is only the opening move and they anticipate putting aircraft in-country too.

Check any treaty language carefully!

Will Syria turn over the WMD that it owns? Or will Syria turn over all that they own, and all they have stockpiled for Iraq and others??

I'll bet on Kerry's hanging onto power tenaciously as McCain. They're both shameless power addicts who think they're indispensible; they're both rock-solid wrong, too.

Sort of took the deal. Squirming now that the Saudis and Qatar are still wanting Assad toppled for the pipeline. Now they are talking that it is nice BUT we want unacceptable or unattainable conditions put on it and we want the approval to use military force (trust us) if “required”. Additionally, there is now talk or requiring the strike anyway to mete out “punishment” for the use of chemicals .... but to be done quickly before the European and UN reports show that there is a real possibility that it was rebels who used the chemicals. His Arrogance is caught between a hard place and a rock by having already guaranteed the Saudis and Qatar that he would topple Assad.
