Syria on Tuesday said the government would take the deal proposed by Russia to turn over its chemical weapons cache to international control, the nation’s foreign minister said.

“[Monday] we held a round of very fruitful negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Serge[y] Lavrov and he put forward an initiative regarding chemical weapons. Already in the evening we accepted Russia’s initiative,” said Walid Muallem, the foreign minister, in a statement reported by Russian news and picked up by USA Today

***What will President Obama do?****

Like the 1930s cartoon character who hides when trouble shows up, he returns after the danger is past, gets in front of the crowd, throws out his chest and says....”WELL! I guess WE showed him!”

Our good friends, Syria and Russia, have signed off on an agreement. Have they ever lied to us? What could possibly go wrong?

I believe it is peace for our time!

Russia and the U.S. could unite for one week, go into Syria, remove the chemicals, and let them continue fighting.— Albert Brooks (@AlbertBrooks) September 7, 2013

Actually it could take years to remove all of the CW that Syria has. Most likely the civil war would have to pause while UN troops are all over the country. The rebels won’t like that but Assad would be happy because that gives him “time”

No...it means that now he is going to drone on for an hour and a half about how “he” forced Syria to give up their chemical weappons and how macho and manly he is as our leader. Except I will not hear a word of the blow hard.

Obama looks like the weak, indecisive person he is on the international stage.

He threatened and cajouled, and Syria made no move to do his bidding.

He tried to bring in the Brits, but their parliment slapped him upside the head.

He sought UN approval and was rejected.

He soought NATO assistancer and they tabled it.

He attempted to bring together a coalition...but only France was willing to go along. The others said that yes, those Syrian chemcial weapons are a bad thing, but, uh...no, they’re not THAT bad and would not join him.

He then tried to pawn off his increasingly embarassing antics at foregn policy on the US Congress and it became apparent that they, and the American people were going to give him a backhand to the face.

Putin siezed the opportunity, made a single offer, and Syria accepted it. China backed it that same day. Now France is going to propose to the UN that this very deal be put to the UN Security council and they will vote unanimously in favor.

So...did Obama do this?

Pffft! Of course not.

Obama looks like the week, vascillating, scheming, stab-you-in-the-back individual he is.

Putin came out looking like a leader on the world stage here.

Do not get me wrong...Putin does not have US interests, or the free market, or principle based, morally founded liberty as his principle concern. But he is shrewd, and does know how to lead, and he does know how to handle the international stage, particularly when occupying it with someone like Obama.

Assad will put a couple of crates of shells in a warehouse surrounded by blue helmets.

The rest of his weapons will remain available to troops, and his production facilities will double their output.

Checkmate, Horseface / 0bummer.

It’s amazing to compare Obama and Bush here.

Obama could not get UN approval for an attack...Bush did.

Obama could not get a colaition together for his attack...Bush got over 40 nations to participate.

Obama was going to fail to get a resolution to use force from Congress...Bush got that resolution, twice.

Obama could not even act on his own “red line,” threat and never even got to the point of establishing a deadline...Bush set a deadline and then acted.

Obama has tried to balme everyone and shift responsibility, even claining the he never said there was a “red line,” when the whole world heard him announce it...Bush took full responsibility for his actions.

We could go on and on all day. There were plenty of things I did not like about Bush. Prescription drugs, the whole “Compassionate Conservatsim from Government,” thing, his singing the Campaign Reform legislation that limited every American’s 1st amendment rights, etc. But BUsh was nonetheless a strong leader and the international community respected him and knew not to mess with him...and he took the fight to pour enemies.

Obama is far worse on ALL of the domestic issues, and is worse than an embarassement on the international stage. he is a quisling and a sympathizer with our enemies.

Obama is an Abject Marxist Ideolog

You see, what happened here was that Obama gave such a serious look to Putin at the G20 meeting and was such a hard-ass at said meetings, that Putin et.al. just backed down because they are very intimidated by him............... NOT!

Obama continues to look like the bumbling idiot he is. Rather than having this idea the result of a carefully planned ultimatum presented to Assad prior to the use of force, it results from Putin responding to an off-the-cuff remark made by Kerry, who was responding to a journalis’s question.

These people are the modern day version of the keystone cops. So now it appears that had Kerry not “accidentally” responded to a journalist’s question and as a result had Putin, of all people, not decided to take the initiative to make a proposal based on Kerry’s off-hand comment, Obama would have been more than happy to continue to march into an attack that surely would have killed many.

Next we’ll hear that Obama had planned to issue such plan/propose to Assad himself but just hadn’t gotten around to it quite yet.

Surreal and simply beyond comprehension.

Of course Syria said 'yes'. Assad is now under the protection of the United States government, because he alone is the one who can deliver these chem weapons to the UN. He has just bought at least a decade of assurance that he will remain in power. In the meanwhile, he will complain that rebels are hampering his efforts to comply, and will push for an arms embargo against the rebels, (which the US will have to support).

This Administration couldn't possibly have screwed up as badly as it did yesterday.

Only Obama will claim that he designed the skirt.

WELL he DID have Hillary Clinton present Russia with a RESET button to reset the "bad" relations that existed because of Boosh's policies.

Bush's fault, Obama's efforts. < /DUmmytalk >
