Obama asks Congress to delay Syria vote

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama has asked Congress to delay the vote on the resolution authorizing military attack against Syria, in order to give diplomatic process more time to work, media reports quoted senators as saying Tuesday.

Obama's request came during a lunch meeting with Democrats at Capitol Hill. A Senate vote on the military action against Syria " would be delayed until next week, at the earliest," Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin was quoted by Politico as saying after the president's meeting with Senate Democrats.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin also said Obama wants to determine the "seriousness of the Syrian and the Russian willingness" to get rid of chemical weapons in Syria.

"He wants time to check it out," Levin said.

The United Nations Security Council is reported to hold an emergency closed-door meeting on Syria later Tuesday to discuss Russia's proposal, which asked Syria to "place its chemical weapons stockpiles under international control."

The proposal was met with positive response from Syria. Obama welcomed the proposal later Monday while still harboring skepticism on how Syria will implement it.

The ball is back in Putin and Assad's court. I hope they turn them over before 0bungles or the UN can even assemble an inspection team. Furthermore I hope they turn over massive stockpiles all with "Property of Saddam" labels (so to speak) on them.

Remember, this was not the end game - it was only a postponement.

Not today, and not tomorrow, but soon, in a spectacular manner that is not now immediately obvious, the Current Occupant in the White Hut is going to throw out another “Hail Mary” pass - and there will be nobody downfield except the opposition.

Unfortunately, the “opposition” will snatch the ball out of the air and begin running with it - in the wrong direction.

To the great dismay of the crowd.

Have you ever seen a playing field get swarmed by angry fans?

“Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin...”

Blahhhh!

That fat commie coward hasn’t visited my congressional district since 1989. He is terrified of patriots, veterans and hunters. He sent one of his bed-wetting congressional aides up to the district back in ‘91 for a townhall meeting. We had him crying within five minutes. After we offered him diapers to stop stinking up the village meeting room with his crap, he fled.

Gawd! I love my Michigan senators. Don’t ask me about the mooing cow Stabenow.

Just a few days ago he was going to start the bombing within hours. Then it was he didn’t need Congress. Then it was he was going to strike no matter how Congress voted. Then it was blah, blah, flippity flop. Wanna bet that bored slouchy little schoolboy, Vlad, schooled him?

I don’t understand - if the resolution passes, he is not REQUIRED to act, just given authority to do so. If it doesn’t pass, well the attack option is off the table - unless he goes all un-constitutional on us...which he said he would do.

So again, what difference does it make if congress votes on the resolution?
