rest of headline....goes on sale at Whole Foods
A radical artificial egg backed by Paypal billionaire Peter Thiel and Bill Gates goes on sale in US supermarkets for the first time today.
Made from plants, it can replace eggs in everything from cakes to mayonnaise - without a chicken ever coming close to the production process.
The team today started selling their plant egg, called Beyond Eggs, in Whole Foods in California - and say it could soon be available in supermarkets worldwide.
We want to take animals out of the equation, said Josh Tetrick, the firms founder. The food industry is begging for innovation, especially where animals are involved - it is a broken industry.

Oh...I’m sure it’s just yummy! I can’t wait to not try it.
Wake me when they start making imitation vegetables out of bacon.
I’m sure Bill will have a couple every morning. Not!
Seems that every one of Gates’ “humanitarian” projects comes with a body count.
Sorry I do not want to eat fake eggs. I want my Eggs to come from a hen not a plant. Next thing we will hear ...Soylent Green is from plants. Gates can keep his Eggs - thank you.
Find a little howitzer or other educational toys inside.
Okay, so I can see one genuinely positive application here, and that’s that kids with egg alergies can finally eat cupcakes when their classmate has a birthday.
Call me when they can make a drumstick tree...
Talk about fixing something that ain’t broke...
If I were stranded on a desert island and could have only one thing to eat, eggs might be my first choice. They may be the most economically nutritious food one could have.
I have no qualms against Whole Foods for selling them. I love Whole Foods. They have great meat and sea food.
Are the Microsoft eggs as virus-prone as Windows?
(Are you SURE?)
Oh just great...first turkey bacon and now chickenless eggs. It’s just wrong.
I shop at Whole Foods all the time but I am not buying their fake eggs!
‘What we want to do eventually is find a way to work with farmers in the developing world to enable them to have new cash crops that can be used. Then we become the kind of company to be feared by the bad guys in the industry.’
The bad guy in the food industry is usually a bureaucrat, on the scene with a bunch of regulations, there to “help”.
Went into a Whole Foods Store yesterday. I was feeling a little down not having had breakfast or lunch, and wanted some soda to give me a little boost.
First you walk in, and it looks like you’ve just fell head first into a commune. LOL< not quite that bad, but the clientele are a rather yuppy looking bunch of seemingly neurotics about to crack.
I walked up to one of the employees and asked him where the soft drinks were. I’m thinking Coke, Seven-up, maybe an orange soda of some sort. If you’re picturing in your mind what the soda section in your super-market looks like, don’t.
It’s designer cans folks. All the little pretty soda cans have little sunbursts or some other colorful depictions instead of your typical soda graphics. Coke? Silly me. The employee explained that some can generically labeled “Cola” was what they carried. He mumbled something proudly that translated for me, “...and it doesn’t have sugar.”
I mumbled back that I was hypoglycemic and I needed some sugar, on my way out...
Freak show is about the closest way to describe it in three words or less.
People Eating Tasty Animals!
This has agenda 21 written all over it.
Can you make it sunny side up?
What happens if you try to hatch it?
They’ve been able to do so, already.
This is just more eco-tyranny.
Bring on the bacon.
I’m glad that you recognized it. Not too many do.
If it is the same price and tastes the same .....
Impossible to improve on the egg.
I’ll believe it when I hear Gordon Ramsay say it.
What happens when the plant egg crashes? Is it re-bootable?
Now that is genius!
Y’know, I tried turkey bacon one time. Yikes! That stuff had so much salt in it, I can’t imagine how it could have been healthier than the real thing (which is far more delicious anyway).
I’ll take my eggs from chickens.
But if you have a God complex (like I surmise Gates does) you’d surely make an attempt.
Well, if there’s a market for it, and people are willing to pay for it, so be it. I’m going to stick to the natural thing, but if these guys can turn a profit, more power to them.
How much will these vege-eggs cost? Can you get them over easy?
Remember when soy meal was going to replace ground beef?
There is one. Websearch drumstick tree. Disclosure, while I like vegetables, I find they taste better with a little meat.
If it is like anything else that Microslop ever developed, it must have at least 25,000 bugs in it..........
egg, something that needs no alternative
BACON!!! Food of the red, white and blue. :-)
The Blue Yolk of Death.
From the plants, right?
Sadly, if you crave sugar you HAVE TO drink designer soda like Jones because they use REAL SUGAR from sugar cane.
Or, if you can, find Mexican Coke made with real sugar.
American multinational sodas sold in NA are laden with High fructose corn syrup(HFCS), and it is no better than turkey bacon or artificial eggs. Laden with Mercury. It's not a real thing.
I've been drinking Coke in large quantities all my life and call it quits. Drinking neat Scotch is healthier. Now I drink Coke only when vacationing outside of North America where they still use real sugar.
Drink HFCS and you are candidate for diabetes medication. In Canada, 9 million out of 37M population are diabetics. go figure.
Also, when you crave chocolate make sure what you eat. I strike out everything from convenience stores. It only looks like chocolate. No Kit Kats and Toblerone for me, ever.
You need more than high school science knowledge nowadays to stay safe. Dangerous times.
The only thing that Bill Gates developed was how to scam investors in a way never before executed so beautifully since J.P. Morgan turned a few million dollars of puffed up assets into the the world’s first billion dollar corporation. Gates masterfully became the world’s richest man while Microsoft shareholders watched their stock price stagnate for over 20 years.
..... WOW!!!! .... they have discovered something called an “Egg Substitute!!!” ..... Gee .... that’s never been done before.
“Green” eggs. I will not eat them on gold plates; I will not eat them, Mr. Gates.
Thanks DTA. Good to know. It’s clear I don’t know what is in Coke, but drinking one does accomplish what I need it to.
I don’t drink much soda any longer. The carbonation is the problem for me.
I appreciate the response.
