Obama's Munich
Townhall.com ^ | September 11, 2013 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 09/11/2013 6:13:45 AM PDT by Kaslin

In August 2012, President Obama inadvertently set America up for war: He said that if Syria crossed a "red line" by using chemical weapons, that would amount to a "game changer". In August 2013, Syrian dictator Bashar Assad apparently did just that, gassing some 1,429 people in Damascus. On Sept. 1, 2013, Secretary of State John Kerry made a compelling case for American action in Syria. He did so by comparing Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad to Adolf Hitler. Labeling Assad a "thug and a murderer," he said, "Assad now joins the list of Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein (who) have used these weapons in time of war." A few days later, he told a conference call of Democrats that if Congress didn't authorize action against Syria, the United States would face a "Munich moment". By this, he meant that the U.S. would be in danger of appeasing a dictator bent on aggressive behavior, just as British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain appeased Hitler after Hitler's annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938. Chamberlain declared "peace in our time" after Munich; within months, World War II began. That, Kerry declared, could not happen again.

Then the Obama administration's tough line collapsed.

After stalling for time by going to Congress for approval of what Kerry hilariously called an "unbelievably small" action, Kerry spoke out at a press conference about what Assad could do to prevent military action. "Sure, (Assad) could turn over every single bit of his chemical weapons to the international community in the next week -- turn it over, all of it without delay and allow the full and total accounting (of it), but he isn't about to do it, and it can't be done," Kerry said. The White House quickly walked back on Kerry's comments, stating that Kerry had obviously been speaking "hypothetically". Even Obama-friendly CNN called the Kerry line a "gaffe."

That's when the Russians decided to prank the Obama administration.

Russian President Vladimir Putin quickly proposed that he could broker a turnover of Syrian weapons of mass destruction to the international community. So did Syria, out of a desire to "pull the rug out from under the feet of American aggression." And the Obama administration, looking for a way out of its self-created box, quickly embraced the proposal. Now, it turned out, Kerry's gaffe had been a planned remark of genius. In fact, Obama and Putin had been discussing just such a proposal last week at the G20! The Obama administration would be happy to assign responsibility for Syria's WMD back to the United Nations -- the same group of folks Obama himself had derided as "paralyzed" just days earlier on Syria.

The Obama administration claimed international triumph. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi praised Obama's "strength," which she said had brought forth the Russian proposal. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did the same: "It is very important to note that this discussion that has taken hold today about potential international control over Syria's stockpiles, only could take place in the context of a credible military threat by the United States."

Hours later, the Russians announced that they would be delaying all action at the U.N. Security Council, according to reports. Putin declared that in order for the Russian plan to work, the United States would have to forestall military action in Syria.

This is called getting played. And yet the Obama administration is too busy declaring peace in our time to acknowledge that the Russians just allowed Assad to cross President Obama's idiotic red line and get away with it. If Obama had shut up in August 2012, this never would have been an issue. He didn't, and so American credibility was on the line. Now American credibility is a laughingstock. All the arguments Obama and Kerry themselves made regarding Syrian action -- that Assad was evil, that Iran had to be deterred, that morality demanded a response -- damn the Obama administration. And everyone knows it.

Last evening on Greta, she had the idiot GOP rep from Illinois, cannot recall his name, who has been all over the media saying he has been trying to reach his contact in the administration to form a bridge to Congress on the GOP side. (funny, I thought we had a leader, deputy leader or anyone of another group in house leadership positions for that). Anyway, according to him, after he went public, within 30 minutes he got a call from the White House (seemed to hold that as much in awe as getting a Papal audiance) and he was meeting with the Obambozzled chief of staff later that day. He intends to forge an alliance because he supports Obambozzled call for war in Syria.

First off, who is this twerp? Second, if I were Speaker and end run like that by a party peon, he would be assigned to parking members cars in the Garage for the remainder of his time in the house.

Am I the only one who heard Soetoro say last night that we were aware of the lead up of the chemical attack for a few days before it happened?

Wouldn't THAT have been the time to bring Assad's actions to the world's attention?

Or did SOMEbody need video of children twitching and foaming at the mouth for political purposes?

Ben Shapiro - “August 2013, Syrian dictator Bashar Assad apparently did just that, gassing some 1,429 people in Damascus”

Hey, Ben- where’s the PROOF???? From all indications, it was the “rebels” who did the deed. It seems all you neo-cons are all about getting America into something that we truly will not be able to walk back. Shut up until you have the facts, FOOL.

And now the good news: With is entire persona on display, Ozero needs to be fully engaged 24/7 to try to reestablish his image. No more half days at the office by passing briefings and meetings with key staff. No more golf outings during the week and no more zooming about the nation on AF1 during this time. No, the supreme egotist wants to be fully engaged in this mission as he has probably blamed everyone within eye sight of the oval office of what has happened without looking the the mirror. Why is this good news? Simple, the more he is involved the bigger mess he will make for himself.

The minute Barry laid down his “Red Line” he lost the initiative and control.

He placed himself in a reactive role and left the role of leader empty.

Putin was able to jump in and take action and Barry could only react.

Barry has been forced to follow Putin’s lead.

Putin has kept Barry rocked back by throwing one fast ball after another and Barry can’t even take a swing.

Obama inadvertently set America up for war

When you put amateurs in charge of foreign policy, you get results like this.

I'm sure our former Sec of State, Madam Hillary Benghazi, might dispute this, but she let that 3AM call (for help) go to voicemail.

At least Chamberlain got a few months for the Brits to get their early warning Radar set up and the Spitfire prototype flying.

Really! WOW! This IS great news!

Just think, Obama will add this new task to his 24/7 dedication to “jobs, Jobs, JOBS !”

BTW, I lost track: was it “JOBS” or was it just “BS?” Maybe Jay Carney will know - - - .

LOL! Both obama and J Effing Kerry need to learn that words have consequences in global politics, and talking just to hear yourself and reflect on how intelligent and mellifluous you sound, can cause problems.

so we should be thanking Lindsey Graham for Syrian warning:

‘Graham: Nukes In Hands Of Terrorists Could Result In Bomb Coming To Charleston Harbor’, the report details Graham’s warning that a lack of military action in Syria could result in a nuclear ‘bombing’ in Charleston, South Carolina,

“He [Graham] says if there is no U.S. response [to Syria], Iran will not believe America’s resolve to block Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Graham also says those nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists could result in a bomb coming to Charleston Harbor.”

Graham is quite literally saying that if we do not launch a war with Syria, South Carolina may be nuked. And this ultimately reeks of yet another false flag being orchestrated by the United States government in order to send us into war, or at the very least a threat. Except this time, we’re talking about nuclear weapons...”

Meanwhile there are reports that some “old” nukes have been transferred from a military base in Texas to South Carolina...stay tuned.

If only the Obama Administration’s collective memory knew of WWI. If they googled “Yprs, Belgium” or Flander’s Fields, they would truly be able to articulate the “World’s” aversion to Gas and Chemical warfare, and the phrase, “Never Again”. But alas Obama and his minions are but of the socialist ilk who know not history but fail to repeat the same socialist failures over and again.

"Assad now joins the list of Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein (who) have used these weapons in time of war."

The German military used chemical weapons in WWI, but did not use them on the battlefield in WWII. Hitler did murder Jews in gas chambers, and there is no denying that.

However, the German military did not use weaponized chemical agents introduced on the battlefield by air or artillery assets during WWII.

"Just out of curiosity, when did Hitler use chemical weapons?"

That's what I first thought. Then Sec of State Mr. Longface in the hearings alluded to the answer - that Hitler's chemical weapon was the gas chamber. OK, maybe technically correct, but it wasn't an indiscriminant weapon. Quite the opposite.

If their lips are moving...
