Bloomberg May Court McAuliffe to Bring Gun Control to Virginia

Questions are being raised whether outgoing billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is courting Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe (D) to enact gun control measures in Virginia if he should win the statehouse in November.

On Tuesday, voters in Colorado recalled two state senators--Angela Giron (D-Pueblo) and Senate President John Morse (D-Colorado Springs)--that supported Colorado Gov. John Hickenloooper's (D) sweeping gun control legislation, which he signed into law in March. As Breitbart News reported, Morse lost his recall election 51 to 49 percent, and Giron lost hers by a "whopping 56 to 44 percent."

Bloomberg reportedly called Hickenlooper on at least two occasions before the Colorado governor signed the gun control laws, and he gave $350,000 more to his Mayors Against Illegal Guns group to back the efforts of Morse and Giron to fight the recall efforts against them leading up to the elections. With Bloomberg's gun control dreams fading in Colorado, he may be turning his sights on Virginia through McAuliffe.

At the end of August, as the Colorado recall efforts were heating up, Bloomberg and McAuliffe reportedly met in McAuliffe's native state of New York. The meeting prompted Second Amendment advocates in Virginia to wonder if Bloomberg and McAuliffe may have discussed something similar to NY SAFE Act for Virginia as a condition of Bloomberg's financial support or endorsing McAuliffe; this would presumably help McAuliffe court Virginia's business-oriented independent voters, particularly in Northern Virginia. Virginia, like Colorado, is quickly becoming a national bellwether on a host of issues.

As Breitbart News reported, at least "one New York-based gun manufacturer" decided to move from the state because of NY SAFE Act. The Syracuse Post-Standard noted the law "expands a ban on military-style weapons, requires mental health professionals to report threats, limits

This would be a bad idea, methinks. But hey, the VA Gov is term limited to one term (a very silly idea, imho) so he might go for it.

If, heaven forfend, he wins.

If I'm not mistaken Virginia has some pretty solid Republican majorities in their State House of Reps. (more than a 2/3 majority in the house) and they tend to be very pro-gun. So little Terry and Bloomy will have their work cut of for them even if Terry does win....

that is the thing about RATS. They will fall on their swords to pass laws that are hated, even at the cost of their public positions. They do it because 1) those laws never get reversed 2) the ousted pol generally gets a high paying job doing nothing in the government or non-profit.

In the end, the march to communism continues unabated. For reference, see DeathCare - some folks lost their jobs but the law is still there. In Colorado, two lost their, but the law is still on the books and is not going to be reversed.

Bloomie has a severe Captain Ahab fixation when it comes to guns.

Or is it Captain Queeg?

Didn’t bloomberg send his fascist goons into Virginia to make illegal gun purchases a few years back? How about if Cuccinelli, as state attorney general, issues a warrant for bloomberg’s arrest? I think that would fire up the conservative/patriot base and make the fascist bloomberg a campaign issue by tying McAuliffe to bloomberg.

“How did this guy ever succeed in business? His decision making is piss poor, and that is being kind.”

He left the Goldman Sachs fraternity with a pile of cash [no idea whether he was individually good at what he did, but a lot of what Goldman does is IMO parasitic at best.]

Subsequently he made an excellent series of investments in business information / media undoubtedly benefiting from his Goldman ties. The man has made a lot of money.
