What Colorado's Recall Results Mean for Dems
Real Clear Politics ^ | September 11, 2013 | Sean Trende

Posted on 09/11/2013 5:52:27 PM PDT by neverdem

When I first looked into the attempts to recall two Colorado state senators, I decided not to write about them. These were solidly Democratic districts, and it seemed unlikely that the disorganized effort would succeed.

But Tuesday night both recalls did succeed. John Morse, the president of the state Senate, lost by two percentage points, while Angela Giron lost by a surprising 12 points...

--snip--

In other words, Giron’s district is about a point more Democratic than Delaware, and Morse’s district is about a point more Republican than California (and therefore still highly Democratic). Despite pro-gun-control forces reportedly outspending the anti-gun-control forces by 6-to-1, both incumbents were defeated...

--snip--

If this isn’t about turnout, but rather is a reaction to policy, then relatively modest gun-control efforts look pretty radioactive, and an awful lot of Democrats who supported the federal gun-control bill ought to look over their shoulders. This is especially true in Colorado, where nine Democrats occupy seats that are more Republican than the ones Republicans just flipped...

--snip--

Perhaps, as I explained in April, the energy is all on the side of the voters who oppose gun control. For example, while Americans might support universal background checks in the abstract, in practice they just don’t care that much about it. Those who oppose them, however, care a lot.

Gun-control proponents had argued that Newtown changed everything. The Colorado recalls are a fresh reminder of how weak an argument that truly is.

Additionally, Democratic pollster PPP found that while the individual components of the gun-control bill were relatively popular in Colorado (albeit by less than the national margin, and in a heavily Democratic district), voters had a positive opinion of the NRA...

Democrats and their media allies will get around this simply by not reporting new laws, as is the case in California.

Some of the most onerous anti-gun laws I've ever heard of are currently sailing through the legislature with hardly a peep from the press. I don't even know who sponsored them.

I am more interested in the Virginia Governor’s race. If we win the Governorship in Virginia then we are in extremely good shape. If not, then we may have our work cut out for us. November will be very telling.

I think something else came into play too. The legislature passed a raft of left wing bills, including a huge tax increase that will be on the next ballot. Plus, they tried to repeal capital punishment, which failed, but Hickenlooper refuses to execute the most notorious murderer in Colorado. There's a sense they went way too far and we want our state back.

Morse did come close, but it appears there was massive vote fraud by Colorado College students in his district, bringing in backpacks full of ballots.

Unlike the Obama/Holder Regime, voters cannot pick and choose which laws they want to obey.

The voter is limited to throwing their feudal social engineering lords out of their feeding positions at the Public Trough.

Had the Democrats won both election by ONE VOTE each, they would be screaming form the hilltops that this vindicates their efforts to eliminate private ownership of guns..

PPP sat on poll showing Colorado recall strength

http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/09/ppp-sat-on-poll-showing-colorado-recall-strength/

“We did a poll last weekend in Colorado Senate District 3 and found that voters intended to recall Angela Giron by a 12 point margin, 54/42. In a district that Barack Obama won by almost 20 points I figured there was no way that could be right and made a rare decision not to release the poll. It turns out we should have had more faith in our numbers becaue she was indeed recalled by 12 points.”

For democrats to think “Newton changed everything” - meaning: more people want gun control, is such a stupid assertion.

Newton was a gun-free zone. We see how gun-free zones work in Chicago. If anything, more people realize that evil exists and we must be able to defend ourselves and our children.

It tells me that, at least on this issue, ideology trumps party affiliation. Contrary to liberal thought, there ARE Democrats who support the 2nd Amendment, or at least there are in flyover country. Your average Democrat can't afford to hire private security, or live in a gated community. He has to defend himself and his family in an increasingly hostile world.

I'm not saying Dems rushed to the polls and voted against their own party, they just stayed home and let the Republicans take out the trash. Debbie Washerwoman says they were suppressed but truth is this issue is creating dissention in the 'Rat party. The GOP would be wise to exploit this schism.

Worth reading. I don’t think it’s valid to compare the Obama immaculation with the voting on this issue. Especially in the more rural Pueblo area.

And the author seems enamored about the percentage of Democrats, but ignores the elephant in the room - the percentage of Hispanics. I think it will be vital to understand how Hispanics feel about key issues, and to communicate the conservative pro-liberty message clearly to them.

People didn’t immigrate (legally or otherwise) to the US because we have tough gun-control laws.

Pueblo has a lot of Hispanic, how many, and many many illegals, I don’t know, but it’s probably one of the higher concentrations in the state.

Maybe someone can jump in with real numbers.

Representatives of the Democratic [sic] party should have figured out the obvious in 1994.

Blind hatred never sees very far ahead.
