The White House is attempting to shift the focus to Russian president Vladimir Putin on the question of resolving the ongoing crisis over chemical weapons use by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Putin has stepped up his pressure on the Obama administration to abandon the threat of military action against Syria, taking to the pages of Thursday's print edition of The New York Times to suggest such a move would be 'pointless.' The op-ed will be published on the same day that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is scheduled to meet with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss a Russian proposal to allow Assad to hand over his chemical weapons to the international community while remaining in power.
Late Wednesday, a senior administration official responded to the op-ed, telling Fox News "President Putin has invested his credibility in transferring Assad's chemical weapons to international control, and ultimately destroyiig them. The world will note whether Russia can follow through on that committment."

But our Boy Emperor loves doing pointless (and destructive) things.
Dope dealing punk from Punahou High meets KGB Colonel.
Place your bets.
Nothing new, Obama also puts space travel for US astronauts on Putin’s Russia.
Barry couldn’t pin a tail on a 30 foot tall donkey with GPS.
$10 says Putin will make Obama cry before its all over...
Wow. Just wow. Never has the world seen such childishness from an US president
Russia sells weapons to Iran, which means that they’re funneling weapons to syria, which means more money for russia. Russia has a vested financial interest in keeping the civil war in syria going, solely to keep the money coming in. Radical religious zealots duking it out=big money to the people supplying the guns and bullets.
Sigh... Obama does love shifting blame... it’s never his fault, is it?
Sigh... Obama does love shifting blame... its never his fault, is it?
That’s a hallmark of narcissistic personality disorder.
Obama washes his hands of the matter. He is reduced to waiting to note whether Putin destroys the chemical weapons. Having claimed authorship of agreement, Obama now abdicates responsibility for fulfilling it. Putin is in control.
The big difference between Putin and Obama is that Putin puts Russian interests first, whereas Obama doesn’t even seem to know or care what American interests are. Commentators are shocked because Putin is acting from the point of view of his country’s interests, but that’s actually what the leader of a country is supposed to do, whether one agrees with him or not.
Obama acts as if his interests and those of his (putative) country are separate. And of course, that may well be the case.
Once, I got myself in deep, and almost got caught, sweating it out for a week before it all went away.
Of course, I was in junior high, not running a country...
You weren't given a pass at every turn in the road. You weren't coached that every life challenge was your country's fault. You weren't taught envy and resentment.
