BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia teen convicted of fatally shooting a baby in a stroller was sentenced Thursday to spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole after the grieving mother asked a judge to punish the gunman for taking "the love of my life."
De'Marquise Elkins, 18, stood silent and showed no emotion as he was sentenced in a courtroom less than two weeks after a jury found him guilty of murder in the slaying of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago during a robbery attempt.

Only a barbaric society would agree to such a sentence.
Any civilized people, realizing their civilization was on the balance of the justice scales, would have sentenced him to be executed.

From what I read, she did and didn’t have any money so the killer said he was going to shoot her baby.

How long do you suppose it will take a lawyer paid with your hard-earned tax dollars and mine and a tame Democratic [sic] party judge to reduce his sentence and spring him loose on parole in a very few years?
I agree. He’s shot 3 people, killing one. Those are only the ones we know about. Society has a right to protect itself from predators by executing them.
Just for reference the mention of her purse in the article was by the perps,,not the woman’s version.

That may not happen. He has shot 3 people that we know about. He may very well have shot more. Only his lawyers think he’s a victim. An appeals court, hopefully, will disagree.
Yes, the SCOTUS ruled that a minor cannot be given the death penalty.
However, thanks to FReeper pogo101 (An attorney) I found out that the same decision also forbids life without parole for perps under 18.
So my guess he gets a good attorney, and beats the "life" rap.
Oh, the perp will probably spend 30 years in prison, but he'll eventually be released.
Whatever is left of him that is.
My bet is the perp will WISH he got the death penalty.

You are implying that if she had done what the thug wanted he wouldn't have shot anyone. Wrong message. You're trying to blame the Mother for the actions of a criminal. You have a very LIBERAL POV and the baby was not the first person that he'd ever shot.

The thugs claim that she wouldn’t hand over her purse (typical “blame the victim”). The Mother says the thug fired when she told them she had no money. He also shot a Pastor. Why do you want to blame the victims rather than the trigger happy thug?
