The Day John Boehner Admitted He's Totally at a Loss
The Atlantic ^ | September 12, 2013 | By Molly Ball

Posted on 09/12/2013 5:45:56 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

On Tuesday, after John Boehner’s last gambit to pass a government-funding bill ran aground in the face of a Tea Party revolt, a reporter asked the House speaker if he had any idea what he’d do next.

“No. Do you have an idea?” Boehner replied, according to Politico. “They’ll just shoot it down anyway.”

Boehner’s dilemma -- finding a way to satisfy the right wing of his caucus that doesn’t involve shutting down the government -- isn’t new. The debate rages in Washington over whether he has an impossible job or whether he’s just terrible at it, but it doesn't really matter. Throughout it all, as Congress lurches from crisis to crisis, he has always evinced a survivor’s weary optimism that this, too, shall pass. But now he is finally, totally, out of ideas.

I say leave it alone and then let it hit everyone...the Unions will kill Obamacare..why should we take the hit for something that the Unions will kill off.and let everyone —individuals—get the $$ hit.

That's all true, but doesn't he have such a trained, practiced mellifluous voice that makes it sound like he knows what he's doing when, of course, he surely does not? (He took speaking lessons, I suppose, when he was named to the all important second-in-line position to the Presidency, namely, THE SPEAKER OF THE WHOLE BIG HOUSE.

You make good points...I just don’t think you can defund an existing law when we don’t have the presidency or the Senate.
and why aren’t the republicans hammering home a message of a simple, easy to grasp replacement plan of Obamacare?

BTW your screen name is terrific.

All he has to do is pass a budget, not more of these CRs that kick the can down the road, minus funding for Obamacare.

If the Senate kills it, it's on them and Obama.

But the GOP sucks at messaging.

The way I've got it figured is that, in the end, only the yokels, such as I, who are in Trey Gowdy's district in S.C., a right-to-work State, will end up not being exempt and having to fund all of Obamacare for the entire Nation and Guam.

Do what is right - be true to the Constitution and the People. Kick your own selfish ego aside.

If they shoot it down, it’s on “them”.

That's about how I see it, too. Once they run out of makers, to pay for all of the takers, more than just Guam will capsize and tip over ;) ....couldn't resist that one :)

What makes Congress and the unions...and EVERYONE else getting an exemption so special? Where's OUR d@mn exemption?

Boehner would rather lose than engage the Dems and govern in a conservative manner. It’s all about what the big money donors want now for the beltway GOP. Everything else is secondary. Donors want a deal and some goodies. No deal, no pork. Main Street is SOL with these careerist pigs running the GOP.

Baeynur? Better ask the Ohioinians in his district if they want to. Everyone in South Carolina except RINOs and Democrats have already recalled him at the top of their voices. Nobody in D.C. gives a flip about us; they already won that uncivil conflict which I shall not name.

He deserves every bit of ridicule and disrespect that we sling his way. He himself has brought ridicule and disrespect to the House and all America by his egregious leadership and complicity with our enemies in high places.

BTTT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

_________

What is lacking in today’s body politic is a philosophy that can be advanced BECAUSE of the veiled threats of doom by the opposition.

Without that “Damn the torpeodes! Full speed ahead!” philosophy, the meekest member of the opposition can turn us into sniveling, sobbing, cowards such as Boehner and McConnell.

For example, the manipulating, fear-mongering, threat of doom and gloom promoted by the supporters of Government harm to our Republic that a certain Republican action would “shutdown the Government” SHOULD be a clarion call for Republicans to shut down the Government to right the wrong that the Government is currently doing.

To not shut down the Government is to support continuation of the wrong that the Government is currently doing.

Whatever wrong is being protected by the supporters of Governmental wrong, SHOULD BE our signal that we should focus on undoing what they are trying to protect, deny, coverup or otherwise hide.

What is required to right the wrong is known to all Warriors: THE COURAGE OF ONE’S CONVICTIONS.

Instead, today in our sorry body politic, these are times of whimpering, timid, compromise-away-one’s-values in the false hope of achieving the equivalent of a 1960’s group hippie hug.

These are times when we wait silently for a larger than life, Warrior to swoop in on a white horse and make everything nicey-nice again.

These are times when the majority of people who vote choose politicians that promise pie-in-the-sky to them, and then these same politicians get put in charge of increasing the debt burden on our Grandchildren’s descendants.

Thus, we have a self-caused burden of a virtual cycle of debt to our descendants caused by promises that we choose to vote for.

These are the times when the obvious solution to these problems can be seen by “The Man in the Glass.”

________________

BTW, read below the above quoted poem for suggestions to improve one’s response-ability.

The Man in the Glass

by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934
1895-1954

When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Whose judgment upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the man staring back from the glass.

You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,
And think you’re a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.

He’s the fellow to please, never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may get what you want down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.

Then he should quit and let the people with balls and the desire to tap into the frustration of most of the country and make the case that if this Obamacare is not good enough for Congress and their staffs, the AFL-CIO THEN it’s not good for the rest of the country. If bone head can’t make that case and won’t even try he should get out, this thing is disaster.
