Russia has warned of renewed arms sales to Iran.
A leading Russian legislator said the Kremlin could renew major weapons deals with Iran if the United States attacks Syria. Duma Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Alexei Pushkov said Moscow has not made such a decision.
If the party of war wins out in the United States and the efforts by Syrias enemies bring results, I find it absolutely justified for Russia to consider more serious measures, including expanding supplies of defensive weapons to Iran, Pushkin said.
Western diplomats said Pushkin was believed to speak for President Vladimir Putin. The chairmans warning was issued on Sept. 11 during a parliamentary debate on Syria, which included calls for the renewal of Russian weapons to Iran.
Pushkin and other parliamentary leaders urged Washington to accept a Russian proposal to end any U.S. threat to Syria. The proposal included Syrian agreement to abandon chemical weapons.
The Duma rejected a proposal by Pushkovs deputy, Leonid Kalashnikov, for renewed arms sales to Teheran. But Pushkin said such a move could again come to a vote should Washington order air strikes on the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Russian arms sales to Iran were said to have dropped significantly after the Kremlin canceled the sale of the S-300PMU1 in 2010. Iran has since sued Moscow for $4 billion in compensation.
On Sept. 11, the Russian business daily Kommersant said Putin decided to sell a shorter-range variant of the S-300, called Antei-2500. The Kremlin refused to confirm the report, but said Putin would discuss military cooperation with Teheran during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting on Sept. 13 in Kyrgyzstan.
Vladimir Putin made two fundamental decisions on Iran, Kommerstant said. The first is intended to resolve the conflict with Teheran over air defense systems. Russia will supply Iran with five battalions of Antei-2500, the modified export version of the S-300V. A key condition of the transaction: Teheran should withdraw the $4 billion case against Rosoboronexport for the failure of the previous contract.
Ever play poker? You seem to know another players hand.
putin is playing obomber like a drum (to mix metaphors).
At least Obama is stimulating Russia’s economy.
The reasons for which are the dynamics of Obama's leadership or lack thereof. Obama the bold, intrepid, hard-core military man would never have yielded the sort of bold military interventionism Putin has begun engaging in, had any action contemplated by Putin met with a force equal to or greater than what Putin is bringing to the table.
The mere fact that Obama is a frightened GayMuzzi pussy-cat scared of his own shadow is naturally going to bring out the military interventionists, opportunists that have been kept sidelined until now due to America's preeminent position of power. but now with America's weaknessess beginning to be revealed the cockroaches will be coming out pf the wooodwork
KGB does not exist any more. But NSA does!
They just changed the name to FSB like they changed the name from USSR to Russia. The same psychotic mass-murders are still in charge.
Good thing you’ve been watching (the name change), otherwise we’d all have been fooled.
And the NSA is conducting a War on Privacy here, just like in the old soviet union. And some of the same kind of psychotic people are running it.
You said there was no KGB anymore and that’s a pretty foolish thing to say. In the same breath you attacked your own country repeating claims made by a Russian spy.
Be sure to read Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49:23-27.
(air strikes are coming)
I hope that Putin realizes that Obama is unstable and not entirely sane. Putin should not push too hard or the Rodeo Clown will unravel.
If Putin deploys Russian troops to Syria to protect against further air strikes an unhinged Obama might do the unthinkable and take some of them out.
Next could come the Russian sinking of a U.S. ship...after that, who can say?
I'm thinking that is his end goal - tweak Zero's ego to get him to flail wildly about and get solid international condemnation. Putin sees his chance to develop a serious strategic stronghold and Zero and Kerry are the perfect dupes to enable him. Lots of bloodshed and a really tense situation which may or may not ignite something really big - Putin knows he will not be alone and we will be isolated.
