Interview: Gene Simmons Defends Tim Tebow, Wants Football To Be More Like KISS
Radio.com ^ | 9/13/13

Has polarizing football player Tim Tebow gotten a raw deal in the press because of his religious beliefs? And would he be treated more respectfully if he were not Christian, and specifically, Muslim? Gene Simmons thinks so.

“He’s got a religious passion, as well he should, we’re in America,” the KISS frontman told Radio.com earlier this week. ”He’s proud to be a Christian, what’s wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America? If he was wearing a burqa, they wouldn’t dare say anything [editor's note: only Muslim women wear burqas]. But if you’re a Christian, you get to be picked on? What the hell? The guy’s got family values. I never saw the media picking on Michael Vick for torturing dogs. Or this other football player, who’s alleged to have killed, committed murder. That’s ‘cool.’ But a guy who’s religious and has got family values isn’t ‘cool?’ He’s cool to me.”

Always been a KISS fan. I remember when Gene Simmons was on Hannity's show years ago calling for Yasir Arafart's assassination.

Place your bets

Which Topic is going to have more duplicate threads?

A) Tim Tebow and Kiss

B) The Dad that wore the Daisy Duke Shorts

C) The help Obama start WWIII video

Hard to give odds on any one of them being favorite right now

Didn’t the XFL go under more than 10 years ago?

A non-religious Jew defending an evangelical Christian...God bless both of them.

Both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are Jewish. Interestingly enough, they attended Julliard where they majored in classical music and graduated at the top of their class.

Simmons is left-libertarian, but despises the religious hate on Tebow because Simmons lost family in the Holocaust...I believe his mom is also a Holocaust survivor.

Simmons was born in Israel

His reality show Family Jewels was actually pretty good. Gene always had a money-making idea going on, and his kids were really polite and unspoiled.

I like Gene Simmons so I hate to bring this up, but I did see him doing an interview making fun of Christians and the fact that we believe a man died and came back to life. He was having major yuks over it. A youtube search could probably find the interview, I don’t remember where I saw it.

and KISS will never be in the RR Hall of Fame. They’ve been blacklisted. His reality show included one episode with his kid to visit a wounded veterans hospital. Will never forget that.

Say what you will about his music, or his morals, or whatever, but I respect Gene Simmons. He is one of the few people in the music biz who will admit he’s in it for the money, and I appreciate that kind of honesty.

I’ve searched online and can find not a single thing to back this up. In fact the only college reference I could find for Gene Simmons went to Sullivan County Community College.

Never thought I’d write this, but thank you Gene Simmons for pointing out the obvious. Gene Simmons is someone the informational-challenged might listen to.

Gene and I have the same dry cleaner in Studio City, CA. He’s a very easy going, polite type of guy. Always saying “Eh, Hey ya”

Gene Simmons on the Mike Douglas Show (1974)

When worlds collide.

I have to say, I think Totie Fields came out the winner here.

Never heard of the Juliard angle, but it is a fact he was a music teacher.

Gene Simmons and Jackie Mason should do a show on Broadway.

Yes, I love Gene Simmons for his unadulterated honesty.

I may not agree with his morals, but nobody can ever accuse him of hypocrisy.

For heaven's sake, he wrote a book called "Sex, Money, Kiss"

Revealing his priorities in this life.

And yes, he is a moral person.

I couldn't afford it, but I'd be honored to be his neighbor.

The late Frank Zappa pretty much conveyed the same message with this album:

Intentionally design to be a transparent ripoff of the Sgt Pepper album. Yes, he was offbeat, eccentric, sometimes downright outrageous, but I've always viewed Zappa as a man of integrity also.

Gene Simmons went to Sullivan County Community College.,br> I stand corrected. Shoulda known this. I lived about 45 min down the road from Sullivan, in the "Jewish Alps" as the old resort area was called.
