TOKYO - A senior official of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, said Friday that situation in the stricken plant was "out of control," according to local media.

The remark was made by Kazuhiko Yamashita, who holds the executive-level title of fellow, at a meeting with Japanese opposition lawmakers in the city of Koriyama in Fukushima prefecture, said Japan's Kyodo News.

His words came less than a week after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe assured the world at a meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at Argentina that the situation in the damaged nuclear plant is "under control."

As in, "Look here, fellow, clean up that mess this instant!" :)

‘NOT’ under control. Sorry.

Whoopsie!

Very scary. I hope the best minds and equipment can fix this...without killing themselves. For all the damage that an oil spill does (and fixed/remediated), this is going to take REAL cooperation. Where is GE? Where is the media? It’s been nearly two years. It ISN’T going away.

The first post should have been:

What does out of control mean to the rest of the world?

Nothing?

Minor inconvenience determining the source of seafood?

Disaster for all living things in the sea?

For all living things?

It is time to get real and tell us what this means.

I would like to think that like all disasters...fires, floods, whatever, that it will exhaust itself after so long a time.

Where are the anti-nuke activists who have kept these obsolete plants in operation by making it impossible to build new ones?

It means some fish will have a slightly elevated exposure.

“out of control”, “under control”... heck, they’re pretty much the same thing, right?

“... at a meeting with Japanese opposition lawmakers “

Sets off my BS meter, political meetings naturally yield political statements.

Get those cement trucks rolling.. PRONTO! Is there any way a breakwater can be built offshore from the plant, in a half moon configuration? CONCRETE IS THE ANSWER (OR MOLASSES).

Yes, it’ll take care of itself in due-time. Maybe 10,000 years, but that’s merely a blink in geological time.

Cherry, I honestly have no idea. There’s just not enough information in ‘regular’ news. All I know is that some wreckage from the Tsunami reached some of our shores. I have no idea if they are measuring (and more importantly) reporting levels other than locally..and even those change with every news report. But the source hasn’t been fixed yet and THAT’s what disturbs me.
