Fund aids dog suffering from embedded collar

Princess P is the latest recipient of help from Cutie’s Fund at the Lucas County Dog Warden’s Office. The medium-sized mixed breed dog has a severely embedded collar.

Dog Warden Julie Lyle is considering getting treatment for her at Ohio State University’s college of veterinary medicine because the wound is so deep. It is 3 inches across and 5 inches deep.

“We are consulting with OSU and have sent them photos of the wound,” Ms. Lyle said. “We expect to hear back from them tomorrow on whether they can help her there or will just advise us on her care here in-house.”

Despite the injury, the 52-pound dog is surprisingly good-natured, wagging her tail and wanting to be petted.

She is estimated to be 5 or 6 years old and was picked up running at large on Parkside Boulevard near Dorr Street on Monday.

“She was in such horrible shape, I wasn’t sure if she was even going to make it through the night,” Ms Lyle said. “But even on Monday when she first came in, she was happy and wagging her tail. She’s got the sweetest little face; you can’t not feel for this dog.”

That’s sad.

I would think the most likely explanation is that dog lost its owner and it had nobody to adjust the collar as it grew.

Your surmise about the loss of the owner is probably not even close. I suspect, and I’ve seen it before, that it is just plain neglect. If the collar is small enough to almost choke the dog to death, it means the owner collared it and let the collar stay in one position.

Once the embedding began, the owner was afraid to try and remove it, or worse, take it to a vet for removal...law enforcement might get involved.

So the owner most likely released the dog in another city and let it be someone else’s problem.

I used to do phone work in the hood. Some of the animal neglect resulting in abuse was insane.I have seen a dog tied to a tree with chain 3 feet long that weighed more than the dog. Dog was deformed from being tied that way for so long with the weight pulling its neck down.
Dogs with wound and maggots in the wound.Entire litters with a bald mother from mange and all the pups with it.they were all put down.
Numerous times I called authorities. Upper management told me to mind to the companies business.I told them dont send me into those areas and I will, send me in and I will continue to report.

Maybe ghetto dwellers shooting each other and killing each other is not so bad after all. If they live like this..they don’t deserve to be in society.
