Rush Limbaugh took the top spot in Right Wing News' annual ranking of the most influential people on the right which, interestingly enough, included only two elected officials.
The website said Limbaugh is the biggest right wing talk radio host in America, a generation of conservatives grew up listening to him, and he's capable of making news, killing legislation, and selling tens of thousands of books any time he opens his mouth.
Rounding out the top 10 were Matt Drudge of the Drudge Report; former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin; political strategist and commentator Karl Rove; House Speaker John Boehner; Fox News talking head Sean Hannity; U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts; the Koch Brothers; U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas;and Glenn Beck, the popular radio commentator, TV personality and author.
COLD COMFORT FOR COLD SPARK. Wonder how the folks at Cold Spark Media will try to spin this discouraging development.
The political consulting firm, with offices in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Washington, D.C., is assisting the U.S. Senate campaign of Matt Bevin, a primary challenger to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. Bevin is pushing a conservative agenda and has the support of Wendy Caswell, Louisville Tea Party president, which seemed like a plus until the recent revelation that she's a registered Democrat who sought a Democrat state Senate nomination last year.
That disclosure isn't going to buff Bevin's conservative shine or make Cold Spark's job any easier. Cold Spark has a recent history of working on several losing campaigns, and a recent poll taken a month after company operatives began aiding Bevin showed him trailing McConnell by 40 points.
KERRY'S NOSE GROWS. John Kerry couldn't pass The Washington Post's Pinocchio Test.
As the secretary of State garnered headlines for his perplexing remark that a strike on Syria would be unbelievably small, the newspaper called him out for revisionist history on his supposed opposition to the war in Iraq.
The Post noted that Kerry asserted on two recent occasions that he opposed the 2003 Iraq invasion while he was a U.S. senator from Massachusetts. As Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler pointed out, For Kerry, the uncomfortable fact remains that he voted to authorize the use of force against Iraq.
Kessler awarded Kerry, the husband of Fox Chapel's own Teresa Heinz, four Pinocchios for the falsehood. In other words, the lie was like the most popular Burger King menu item: a whopper.
STEALTH VISIT. Supermodel Kate Upton recently swept into and out of Westmoreland County with little fanfare.
The two-time cover girl for Sports Illustrated's popular swimsuit edition landed at Arnold Palmer's Latrobe Country Club for a private golf lesson with the legend himself.
So far, the only publicity regarding the visit was an Aug. 27 Had an amazing golf lesson today Upton tweet with a photograph showing her alongside Palmer.
TIGHT-LIPPED IN TIGHT TIMES. Anyone wondering about the City of Jeannette's financial mess will not get a straight answer from Bill Bedont, Jeannette Council's finance chairman.
He declined to give a report on the state of the city's finances at a recent council meeting and afterward refused to divulge why.
Bedont's view of city finances is vastly different from that of Scott Avolio, city solicitor. Bedont said his view is more optimistic.
That non-disclosure came the same night the city finalized a structured settlement with businessman Frank Trigona that will cost Jeannette $178,000 this year, plus thousands more through 2016.
“Rounding out the top 10 were Matt Drudge of the Drudge Report; former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin; political strategist and commentator Karl Rove; House Speaker John Boehner; Fox News talking head Sean Hannity; U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts; the Koch Brothers; U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas;and Glenn Beck, the popular radio commentator, TV personality and author.”
Half of those mentioned have no influence.
Calling an ace an ace, and a slut a slut
Right on.. Rsh is the Will Rogers...Walter Winchell ...Paul Harvey of our day.... maybe much beter
RE: Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts
After what he did with the Obamacare decision — Re-imagining what was clearly a penalty into a “tax”, in effect re-writing the law from the bench — I don’t think I can take this list seriously.
I was glad to see the obvious stated - - “Rush rules” - - but then realized the “Right Wing News’ annual ranking” is a joke when I read who rounded out the top 10.
Three on that list are demonstrably NOT conservative.
This could be an interesting development if some democrats are starting to favor the Tea Party ethos.
I’ll wager that when Rush started out on his talk show career all those years ago — when Reagan was the embodiment of Conservatism — that Rush never expected for himself be one of the primary torchbearers in this age of simpering RINOs.
Wonder how that turned up. Ol' Chinless Mitch may have his own opposition research going.
I’m surprised Mark Levin is not on the list - he’s leading the intellectual wing of the Tea Party IMHO.
I almost forgot this one :
We Could See a McCain Landslide (Rushlimbaugh.com, August 12, 2008)
Don't Doubt me LOL
BONER AND ROBERTS ARE THERE AND ANNIE AND MICHELLE AREN’T?
BWHAAHAH JACK BENNY AND JACKIE GLEASON ARE DEAD ...DOES THIS
OUTFIT WANT TO TAKE THEIR PLACE? JUS’ AKSIN’
Hi’s not chinless. He’s gotta be related to one thru marriage.
Agreed. Some on the list should not be there. Mark Levin definitely should be in the top 5 at least.
Without Mark Levin on the list, the entire thing lacks credibility.
I believe the scales were perhaps actually measuring “reaction”, as much or more as “influence”.
These 10 certainly cause reaction. :)
And with Jim Robinson notably missing from the list, it's a fraud. Our Jim is the pioneering innovator when it comes to new media and Conservatism. With nearly half a million registered users and magnitudes more as lurkers, Free Republic is the premiere site for pro-God, pro-life and pro-gun activism. Those three items form the the core of real Americanism.
This list isn’t our “bench”. Our bench, so far, are all in office, willing to run for the big chair. None among the Top 10 are, but Boehner, and he isn’t running, only seat warming.
Absolutely!! Drop Boehner and Roberts, and put our beloved and conservative JimRob, and Mark Levin in that top 10!
Rush needs to write another book. As far as I know, he only wrote two: “The Way Things Ought To Be”, and “See, I Told You So”. But they’re both outdated, and not relevant to what we’re going through right now.
Karl Rove hahahha
House Speaker John Boehner Oh, yea right, hahahaha
Fox News talking head Sean Hannity, bone head is more like it
U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, WTH?
the Koch Brothers, no one even knows they are
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, yep
Glenn Beck, the popular radio commentator, TV personality and author, sure a supporter of homosexual marriage is right wing
What a worthless rating.
What you actually meant to write is this: “Half of those mentioned have no influence with me.” Only speak for yourself.
I second that. Why wasn’t Mark Levin’s name mentioned???
You’re absolutely right...Mark Levin is vital to us all...why wasn’t he mentioned?
Rush publicly speaks approximately 43,000 minutes a year and that is the best you can do? That's it from 43,000 minutes in a whole year?
I, however, can understand the difference between predicting something and overall influence. It is nothing he has ever personally claimed; however, I am sure of one thing: Rush has done more to advance the cause of conservatism in one radio show than you have ever done in your whole entire life.
Your misunderstanding of what the term "influence" means belies your lack of intellect and makes a mockery of your own mockery.
Absolutely dead on!
Karl Rove is an establishment hack to the degree that he might even be a democrat plant.
Shaun Hannity I can't watch or listen to. I don't think he's a bad guy at all. Just something about the way he makes his case irritates me.
John Boehner??? Have no use for him. He's not the right man at the right time. I get the feeling behind closed doors he's crossing us.
Gleen beck does not support gay marriage.
He most certainly does.
He was probably right on the McCain winning but didn’t account for the massive voter fraud done by the dems.
McCain was ALWAYS campaigning for obamatollah
Yep....I don’t want “allies” like that.
That’s a really nice picture of JimRob. Going to save it.
“Rush needs to write another book. As far as I know, he only wrote two: The Way Things Ought To Be, and See, I Told You So. But theyre both outdated, and not relevant to what were going through right now.”
Rush just wrote a children’s book with a patriotic bent. Just came out.
Rush is the compass that points everywhere but North.
He only has to be smarter than the suckers who believe him.
Its great work if you can get it.
“Gleen beck does not support gay marriage.”
Glenn Beck used instrumentalism to support homosexuals getting marriage licenses by first claiming he doesn’t believe in “gay marriage” and shouldn’t “destroy marriage” then claiming homos had the right to “unions” then claiming government shouldn’t define marriage then claiming homos had the right to marry by using churches and claiming no one should care about that.
Glenn is the Devil in my opinion as he incrementally supports liberal causes but slides into them by first stating the conservative point of view then incrementally justifying and supporting the liberal point of view.
If the States Convention idea gains traction, he will rise to top 10.
The Rush-bots are much like the Star War groupies of 1970s/80s.
‘May the Force be with you’ except he calls ‘the force’ is in this case ‘conservatism’ which to Rush-bots is whatever Rush claims it is. He advances no more than ‘Rushism’ but calling it that would create too much suspicion.
The fact that Rush is consistently wrong and contradicts himself doesnt bother his bots.
‘....BTW , have you bought Lifelock yet?
Identity theft is on the rise. Call now and get a discount just give them Rush-code-'RUSHSUCKERS’ and tell them you got it from me
I am guessing you are a purist, in which you are offended because Rush does not agree with you on all the issues 100% of the time. You take the difference of opinion personally; hence you act out.
Childish and immature behavior is the result.
Rush is rich and you are not. Rush is articulate and you are not. Rush is coherent and, well, we know you are not. Rush can gather millions every day and you cannot. Rush can write books and you cannot. Rush can explain American exceptionalism and you cannot. Rush changes people's voting behavior from liberal to conservative and you cannot. Rush has an Atilla the Hun chair and you do not. Rush teaches at the Advanced School of Conservative Studies and you do not. Rush gets under the skin of Obama and Obama responds publicly and you are ignored. Rush is massively influential and you are not.
