Bill Cosby Tells Don Lemon Black Men Need To Raise Their Kids, Has Message For ‘No-groes’

CNN anchor Don Lemon has, of late, turned the focus of his frequent conversations on race to the idea of personal responsibility in the African American community. On Saturday night’s edition of CNN Newsroom, Lemon continued that controversial trend with comic legend Bill Cosby, who has also felt the heat of controversy on the subject. Cosby talked to Lemon about young black men raising their kids, over-medication of juvenile inmates, and may have even coined a new word: “No-groes.”

For the past few months, Don Lemon has courted controversy with several segments pegged to his general agreement with comments by Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly, aimed at solving problems within the black community. Legendary comic actor Bill Cosby has also stirred controversy by airing grievances against his community, but neither Lemon nor Cosby have backed away from their criticisms. In Saturday night’s interview, Lemon asked Cosby to reflect on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, and what kind of African American leaders are needed now.

“I think it has to come from the universities,” Mr. Cosby began. ” I think, women, strongly because when you see 70%, in research, that says they are the leaders of the household, what we need is for people to realize I want to raise my kid. I want to go back and get my three kids. I want to take on that responsibility. I want to love my children.”

He added that one of the sights he’d like to see more of is what he saw at the recent Essence Festival, “walking around to see, yeah, to see a black male with his child on the shoulders and holding.”

He also encouraged young people who might not be able to go to a prestigious college to go to community college.

Community college? It would be a blessing if they bother to finish high school.

The Great Bill Cosby has been one of the few, consistent and sane voices from the Black community about the Black community.

He has tried in vain to open up this sensitive subject and make the community deal with their failing reality. He has been shouted down and criticized for speaking the truth.

He really cares and has great ideas but his community can only shout him down, much to their detriment.

His life is one that should be admired and copied by his brethren. Bill Cosby believes in ADVANCEMENT not stagnation.

He also encouraged young people who might not be able to go to a prestigious college to go to community college.

First, get a real elementary education.

Second, get a real high-school education.

Finally, get a job. I have a BS and an MBA, but this notion that college is the only way to succeed is ruining this country.

Bill makes so much sense. However, this trend for fatherless sons and daughters is coming for the white community as well. As long as the gov’t will forcibly take money from someone and pay the mother monthly to be alone, she will. The gov’t has succeeded in taking entire generations away from their core values. I am divorced and I saw how much this impacted and still impacts my own children. It was a stupid thing to do, that I cannot take back. I however, did not have child support.

I don’t know. Would you rather have a black kid raised without a father or have him raised by a Traybon-thug or some other Son Of Barack? It’s a real dilemma.

Sadly, I am always SHOCKED when I see a black FAMILY together.....that is a very sad state of affairs but it’s very unusual.

Lemon asked “Why is it so hard for some people to get that message, to hear that message, to receive that message, and without lashing out?” “Well, it’s because they feel, I think they feel embarrassed,” Cosby replied.

Time to get over it. Too bad Cosby is getting so rambling and incoherent in his live interviews. He needs a few younger men to take up his campaign. Lemon seems like a good start. But most prominent athletes and entertainers are thugs themselves, so it's going to be tough to find some more good ones.

Ben Carson types are too "white" for a lot of black people. Those damn Oreo guys who go to school, finish it with good grades, get jobs in the "white" world, earn a decent living, raise a Huxtable family with nice kids, are just too much for them.

They know the white man's ways are just wrong for them. They want to be athletes, actors, and rappers with a lot of bling and no responsibilities. But it's not working out all that well for 93% of them, even though they bought into obama. Yes, they are embarrassed because their stupid, childish ideas just plain suck. Time to admit it.

It's going to take generations of chipping away at the problem OR one truly amazing black leader with the ability to slap some sense back into them in a hurry.

Agreed. One of the inner city pastors I've been working with says blacks need to drop the false revulsion toward "selling out". He says its OK for a black man to sell poison to his neighbors on a street corner and he's treated as a hero for doing so but a man who works to raise his family is treated like a pariah.

Its some really backward thinking. The reality is the family man lives a much better and usually longer life. That's not selling out, that's selling up.

Unfortunately true and to make matters worse that is exactly the type of black man that republicans try pushing on blacks when most will only respect a black man who can build "street cred". Oddly enough I think Herman Cain is one of the few black republicans who could pull it off even over someone like Alan West.

Ben Carson has a role but politics ain't it. He already has hero status in Detroit and there is even a prep school in Detroit carrying his name. (Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine and Detroit Collegiate Prep School) I personally would like to see him with a role in education.

If there were 100,000 Bill Cosby's versus 1 Al Sharpton and 1 Jesse Jackson and 1 Barack Obama, the AA community would be living MLK’s dream.

How can it be that there is status in being ignorant, stupid, violent and irresponsible? My apologist friends would, of course blame everything on the White man.

Everything seems to be outside of the Black man's control, everything. The first way to move ahead is for the AA community to face up to the problem as pointed out by Cosby.

This “blame the other” behavior is prevalent in Arab/Islamic culture as well. The reason that they are living in the 7th century is because of the white imperialists or Jews. Nothing is of their own doing.

Strange that as the Black man left the Church-GOSPEL AND THE BEDROCK OF FAITH and embraced Islam (which enslaved them and sold them to white traders starting in the 15th century onwards), they have gone downhill, especially since all the Great Society enactments of 1964.

Is there a solution? Liberals would say eradicating poverty and Federal programs. Cosby would say, first, take responsibility, take off the Rapper outfit, get a job and start supporting your family that you fathered.

The only one willing to organize countermeasures is another corrupt fat cat named Rev. Farakahn who wants to enslave them into Islam. So where can they turn?

Maybe Cosby can get the ball rolling?
