Obama Says GOP Debt Ceiling Demands Are an Assault on U.S. ‘Constitutional Structure’
The Blaze ^ | Sep. 15, 2013 | Oliver Darcy

Posted on 09/16/2013 11:17:46 AM PDT by xzins

President Barack Obama said in an interview which aired on Sunday that he “will not negotiate” on the debt ceiling with the GOP.

“What I haven’t been willing to negotiate, and I will not negotiate, is on the debt ceiling,” Obama told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an interview on “This Week.”

The comments come on the eve of another fiscal showdown, where House Republicans, seeking to defund and delay the implementation of the president’s landmark healthcare law, hope to negotiate concessions from the White House.

“If we continue to set a precedent in which a president … is in a situation in which each time the United States is called upon to pay its bills, the other party can simply sit there and say, ‘Well, we’re not going to put – pay the bills unless you give us … what we want,’ that changes the constitutional structure of this government entirely,” Obama said.

Obama said he is drawing a red line.

“What has never happened in the past was the notion that in exchange for fulfilling the full faith and credit of the United States, that we are wiping away let’s say major legislation like the health care bill,” he said.

“Never in history have we used just making sure that the U.S. government is paying its bills as a lever to radically cut government at the kind of scale that they’re talking about,” he added.

RE :Only repealing it will repeal it, and that won’t happen until we have a majority conservative House, a super-majority conservative Senate, and a conservative president.

True, my only point was that not having a CR signed by Obama does not defund it. Much of the Rheteric floating arounds sounds like it does,.

What Obama is saying is that he will spend anything he likes and the Congress can go screw them selves.

WE need to grab this gift from the President and run over him with it.

This is not about Republicans....

This is about the Dictator Obama.

A continuing resolution without funds for ObamaCare won’t be signed by Obama. You are correct.

Not having a CR at all won’t defund ObamaCare, either. You are correct.

The conservatives want to put a CR in front of him to sign that funds all of government except ObamaCare and have the people understand that it is Obama who is shutting down the government and not them.

They need to be putting that in ads, in emails, in franking privileges, and in every means of communication they can think of RIGHT NOW.

Because when it actually comes to the showdown, the media is NOT going to carry their water for them.

In other words, they have to get AHEAD of this particular story. Sadly, they can’t agree. So, if they don’t agree until the last minute, then they will be handed their heads by the media.

That’s what’s terrible about Boehner’s dithering.

Is this the same guy who arbitrarily changed a section of a duly enacted law ( the ACA) without any reference to Congress (the Employer Mandate)? I believe this sort of behavior is referred to by those of the Hebrew persuasion as Chutzpah.

I was wondering if I missed the news on that, ya know, that legal requirement for them to pass a budget!

So thankful I have a choice NOT to listen to this fake poser, it’s challenging enough to read what spills out of his pie hole.

RE :”The conservatives want to put a CR in front of him to sign that funds all of government except ObamaCare and have the people understand that it is Obama who is shutting down the government and not them.”

You missed a step.
That CR must get through the Senate.

Now if the GOP had just 51 willing Senators (all a budget needs) it would be possible to challenge Obama with it directly.

But I bet that Senate only has about 15 or so. You know them.

So Obama will get on TV and blame that ‘no good do nothing GOP congress’ then, just guessing now...Bohner gets with Reid and cuts another CR deal....

Like the reruns of Gilligans Island (now playing on MeTV)

Somebody needs to tell the constitutional scholar that the president shouldn’t be negotiating anything. He can either sign or reject a bill.

But the senate has been acting as his shield. So nothing he doesn’t want will get to him so they can blame the republican House.

It’s getting old, though.

I think we have the same issue. They have to get it signed, sealed and delivered by the House to the Senate with an enormous amount of concentrated publicity that they’re funding everything except obamacare and the reasons why it won’t hurt anything, since we’re not spending that money right now anyway.

Then they’ve immunized themselves against the message that they’re shutting down the government.

But, Boehner’s dithering is making it impossible to mount a campaign.

But as senator Obama voted NO to increase the debt ceiling.

Come on Boehner & co take on Obama on his hypocrisy!

Obozo only negotiates with those pledged to kill us

Now he's getting domestic advice from his most trusted foreign policy advisors.

Boner should say “What I haven’t been willing to negotiate, and I will not negotiate, is on the debt ceiling so I’m glad we agree.”

Very strange, since that is the way they've done business for eons.

ObamaCare is a NOT a bill that needs paying yet.

What the message from Cruz and others says is “Pay the bills we currently owe. DON’T take on NEW bills that will just bankrupt us.”

If you start to buy a new car, but in doing your budget discover it’s a really bad idea, then you STOP. You don’t go ahead and buy it.

You shove that purchase into the future and you get your finances in order.
