A religious studies professor at Texas Christian University sent an email offering special tutoring to STUDENTS OF COLOR ONLY.
An anonymous student in Santiago Piñóns Understanding Religion: Society and Culture class received the following email from the professor and forwarded it to Inside Higher Ed:
At the beginning of the semester I usually like to invite all my students of color to get together and discuss the challenges they may face during the semester. However, the time slipped by and I didnt get a chance. So, I would like to ask if you are interested in a get together on Monday afternoon? We can also discuss the exam that is coming up, if you want. I dont mind if this would turn out to be a study session for my STUDENTS OF COLOR ONLY.
The student believes that Piñón sent his offer of assistance to students with Hispanic-sounding last names. The student said she has a Hispanic last-name, but is only one-quarter Hispanic.
I straight up just got segregated by my own teacher. Im 75 [percent] white, she wrote on Facebook, according to Inside Higher Ed.
One of the students who received the email notified university administrators. Piñón later announced that the study session was cancelled, and it did not take place on Monday....

PSSSTTT! dsrtsage,
After all is said and done, just remember, whitey walked on the moon.
Don’t say that out loud, cause you’ll be called a “RASIS” if you do.
Well...that’s not discrimination.
I would paint my face purple and show up just for fun.
I would have gone anyway, demanding the prof give a clear and legal definition of ‘student of color.’
No definition = it is whatever anybody says it is.
At TCU, they'd just think that you're getting ready for the football game. The TCU Horned Frogs wear purple and their fans are pretty dedicated.

They are not, however, from the negroid race.
In the USSA, “people of color” is just a PC term for negroid.
Of “color”? Just what do you mean “color”?
Recall the old warning that he who controls the meaning of words controls the outcome of a debate. This was never more true than in the current discourse about being of “color” in America.
Dr. Martin Luther King famously said that he wants people judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. So, what is “color” in the context of this professor’s offer to help? I think it is to reject Judeo-Christian Caucasians far more than to help everyone else. And I think this is based on the presumption that people “of color” are liberal and Judeo-Christian Caucasians are not. So at its heart, this racist policy is deeply connected with liberal ideology.
I can’t stand sneaky people, especially when they pretend to be Christians.

To speakers of English STUDENTS OF COLOR = COLORED STUDENTS.
Put that in your diversity pipe and smoke it!
Sounds sorta like she wants free Spanish lessons, or she (?) has the hots for one of those students.
I agree —this is just more balkanization.
White students to the back of the bus. Ain’t got to say “please”.
“It’s nuanced.”
