Aaron Alexis, the 34-year-old suspect in Monday's shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard, had "secret" clearance and was assigned to start working there as a civilian contractor with a military-issued ID card, his firm's CEO told Reuters.

"He did have a secret clearance. And he did have a CAC (common access card)," said Thomas Hoshko, CEO of "The Experts," which was helping service the Navy, Marine Corps intranet as a subcontractor for a Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Services contract.

SECRET clearance, CAC card. Sure. Why not?

I can remember when the kind of mental instability involved with the two gun incidents on his record would have disallowed him for a secret clearance.

The problem now seems to be that our intelligence agencies are no longer working for our country. In fact, they seem to be working against it.

Wait until the Obamacare (aka Boehnercare) Navigators are unleashed and have access to records. The Federal government does few things well, and a lot of things BAD.

A secret clearance with a general discharge. I would not have guessed that to be possible.

The US government can’t screen out a psycho with anger issues and a history of gun related arrests but his past is uncovered in a couple of hours by those on the internet. Government = incompetence.

We seem to have both a contractor and uniformed services problem.

It’s like almost to laugh at the idea that government is spying on the whole country. Yes, like Inspector Clouseau they are spying!

I was in the shooting at ESL (a defense company in Sunnyvale, Ca) back in 1989. The shooter, Richard Farley, had a top secret clearance. I know he had been fired from the company for stalking one of the employees, but I don’t know if his clearance was taken away or not.

Clearances don’t give you that much information on people.

It’s just really bad if you’ve gone bankrupt!!

His past of shooting out tires on cars would keep him from a T/S clearance.
