U.S. law enforcement officials are telling The Associated Press that the Navy contractor identified as the gunman in the mass shootings at the Washington Navy Yard had been suffering a host of serious mental issues, including paranoia and a sleep disorder. He also had been hearing voices in his head, the officials said.

Could one of the “voices in his head” be that of Ayman al Zawahiri who recently called for attacks inside the American homeland?

Does seem to be a loner. Does seem to be a nut.

That does not preclude that he was also very useful to the jihad inside America.

Why was he not institutionalized much less able to get a top security pass?

But, according to a commentator on Fox&Friends, he just recently got clearance to enter the Navy facility and was supposed to be starting a new job at the facility next week.

Commentator wondered how the guy managed to slip through the security background check, that the gun firing incident in Texas should have been enough to raise red flags.

How much damage has this traitor and his HANDLERS
(ignored, of course, like with HASAN) done unseen?

On computers?

Against others, unknown at the moment?

Girl Scouts have more security and judgment.

I love Reagan but he was not perfect. Reagan's fault.

Institutionalization of the insane is now voluntary. It takes a court to get someone committed. It is really hard to do now.

First, his clearance was secret only....which means they just checked to see if he’d been arrested recently. Arrests after a number of years....probably don’t count these days.

Second, I’ll say generally that no one....publicly wants to deal with the institution of folks. You can’t find judges or political folks who talk positive on doing this.

I’d say in the state of Alabama where I grew up....forty thousand folks ought to be in a mental facility, but they aren’t, and we just have to deal with crazy uncle Leon or mad aunt Wanda.

My humble bet. The Pentagon will quietly ask for a review of all civilian guards (to include contracted folks). A dozen will be discovered as drug-users or unstable...quietly being released. I would imagine that US military personnel will quietly ask if they can bring weapons onto a site and keep them at their desks. “No” will be the answer....but some senior officers will start to create mini-arsenals known only to a few folks....in safes and vaults...and prepare for the next episode.

Who would have “institutionalized” him?

Unless a person is considered dangerous they aren’t going to be institutionalized.

There are many, many people running around with this similar profile...

"Why wasn't he institutionalized?"

Just try to get someone institutionalized in this country without personal consent.

This concept was started by the libs and that's why there's been so many nutcases running loose across the fruity plain during the past decades.

This man being called a nut went to Thailand I understand.

Thailand has Islamic terrorism in its midst, orchestrated by the Muslims in the southern part of the country near the Malaysian border.

Lets investigate the Thai connections more.....

By the way, Lee Harvey Oswald was a nut, too.

A left wing nut to be exact.

Oswald went to the Soviet Union and came back to the United States.
