U.S. law enforcement officials are telling The Associated Press that the Navy contractor identified as the gunman in the mass shootings at the Washington Navy Yard had been suffering a host of serious mental issues, including paranoia and a sleep disorder. He also had been hearing voices in his head, the officials said.

And didn’t the Tsarnaev dude go to Chechnya for a time before he went off in Boston? Seeing a pattern here.
News flash. All Muslims have mental health issues. Duhhhh...

Meanwhile, the feds are doing the job that's more important to them. We should probably give a friendly shoutout to whomever is in charge of spying on conservative websites (good morning, fed) instead of identifying real weaknesses, keeping invaders out of the country, and yet again having an unstable person with a security clearance commit mass murder. Maybe we shouldn't be supporting and arming terrorists in the ME and instead worry about the US becoming more stable.
Affirmative action hire I predict
Agreed. A month is suspicious for a guy getting a gubermint check for disability for a problem with his feet!
It’s virtually impossible to get a person involuntarily (or even voluntarily) institutionalized for more than a few days now, even when they have demonstrated that they are a threat to others or themselves. I don’t know what it takes to be considered dangerous enough to be institutionalized more than the 72 hours they usually permit.
That said, it appears that this guy’s violence issues (like shooting out the tires of somebody he said “disrespected” him and shooting into his neighbor’s ceiling because she had complained about his loud music) were all resolved in such a way that they didn’t appear on his record. The charges were dropped by the prosecutor in the second case, and in the first, they were just reduced to a misdemeanor.
Sort of like what happened with Trayvon Martin: anything to avoid giving him a record and making the police department or prosecutor’s office look like they had too many black arrests.
He was apparently very aggressive in proclaiming his offended status, too, something that seemed to extend to the entire family, because according to one person interviewed, his sister acted exactly the same way and was known for complaining that people in her apartment complex were “dissing” her by parking in certain places, etc. I think he had rather a chip on his shoulder, in addition to being nuts, and that more will come out about this. He reminds me of the LIRR gunman years ago.

Highly likely. They needed a black employee for some quota and he was the “best” available.
The shooter has likely had mental illness issues for a long
time but they were borderline. He joined the navy and like
a lot of people in the service the experience didn’t cure
him but it did give him some skills....some discipline.
Not enough to make him stable and safe but enough so that
he could hide his instability most of the time. His issues
eventually cost him his navy career as he was mustered out with a general discharge instead of an honorable one. That
along with other insults to his psyche...both real and perceived likely lead him to plot out his revenge. To call him crazy though is foolhardy....he was mentally ill but
still had the mental acuity to plan and pull off a successful assault of a federal military facility with
a high level of carnage. And this is based on what we know.....imagine what they aren’t going to tell us.
That's the wrong question. The "proper" question is: How was he able to get a firearm? We need tougher gun control laws!! /sarc
Why was he given clearance? Because of his skin color? I would SUE SUE SUE!!!
Whether schizophrenic or whatever, sounds more like our usual mass murderer profile: young, male, mentally ill, on prescribed drugs and deep into violent video games.
This is the issue we should be dealing with, though in practicality it results in less loss of life annually than, what, lightning strikes or some other type of freak accident.
Or the gun incident in Seattle, or the sabotage of a gas tank, or...
So.... the mental health NICS checks are not in place, right? Because dude bought a legal shotgun.
I am not a fan of giving politicians the authority to decide who is or isn’t sane enough to have a gun.
Okay....What kind of meds was he on?
There does seem to be a ‘void’ in Alexis’s recent residential history.
He lived in Ft. Worth until about 6 months ago.
I have not heard anyone say where he resided currently.
His brother-in-law said that the family had very little contact with him, and the b-i-l said he had never met Aaron Alexis.
Holder is now going after employers for screening out felons, because of the disparate impact on blacks—and this guy didn’t even have a felony conviction.
