Bill Clinton: 'Who cares' how Syria deal developed? By Justin Sink - 09/17/13 09:43 AM ET
Former president Bill Clinton dismissed criticism of the Obama Administration's handling of the crisis in Syria, arguing that ultimately there was an "inherent and enduring benefit" to striking a deal with the Assad regime to turn over its chemical weapons.
Critics of the administration have said that the deal which grew out of an offhand remark made by Secretary of State John Kerry at a press conference in London is evidence that the Obama administration lacks a coherent foreign policy. Others have charged that the agreement, brokered by Russia, increases the stature and credibility of the Kremlin in the Middle East.
But Clinton said Americans should focus on the outcomes over the process.
Now, there are some who say well, you know, this gives the initiative to Putin," Clinton told CNN's Fareed Zakaria in an interview airing on "New Day." "And, who cares how it came up? John Kerry got asked, well, what can we do to stop you from bombing, and he said make the problem go away. So Putin says, OK, Ill do that."
Clinton conceded that there remained the "separate issue" of the deal giving Russia leverage and maintaining the power of the Assad regime.
"But there is inherent and enduring benefit in taking a step that has the potential to rid the world of these chemical weapons," Clinton said.
The former president also sought to explain the rationale behind Obama's decision to seek congressional approval for a use of force, saying he thought a failed vote in the British Parliament likely concerned Obama.
"I think it made [President Obama] think, you know, this is something the country ought to do together. We cant pretend that this is not important," Clinton said.
On Saturday, Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced an accord in Geneva that lays out a plan to secure and then destroy Syria's chemical weapons arsenal.
The deal is expected to prevent military action, although President Obama said in a statement that there are consequences should the Assad regime not comply.
No doubt Slick Willy would be perfectly okay with Putin as the new President of the United States.
Who cares about Obama and Kerry’s fecklessness?
Iran, Syria, Russia, China, NKorea.
Who cares what the buffoon thinks?
Clintoon still can’t keep it zipped.
A conversation at the Clinton dinner table...........
Do we have it on video? “Who cares” with “What difference does it make” could make for some good campaign ads.
Hillary must be drafting his remarks.
Ain’t love sweet ?
But you already knew that.
“Who cares?” = “We can’t figure out how to blame it on Bush or the Tea Party.”
Very simple Bill. Americans expect honesty and integrity out of their President and his staff. Not only was our President trying to drum up support for bombing WMD facilities over questionable data, but he is now lying about why he decided not to bomb WMD facilities.
Who cares? Obviously this White House if you are still talking about it!
Just saying and doing what Communists say and do.
No. “Who cares?” about anything the worthless klintoon degenerate might utter.
Yet again Bill Clinton has rhetorically plunged the knife into Obama’s back and twisted it with glee.
By saying “who cares” how the Obama regime stumbled into its “deal” with Putin, he is drawing attention to the ineptness of Obama and Kerry as they demonstrate their unreadiness to occupy the world stage.
Making a statement akin to “Don’t think about Obama’s failures” is guaranteed to make people think about Obama’s failures.
Once again Billy Boy is playing his passive-aggressive games.
I’d swap the one we have for Putin.
Just like his sow spouse: `What difference does it make, as long as ah got mine?’.
