Catalonia’s bid for independence from Spain hit another obstacle after the European Commission said any breakaway territory would not be part of the EU.

“If one part of a territory of a member state decides to separate, the separated part isn’t a member of the European Union,” the European Commission’s Spanish vice-president, Joaquin Almunia, said on Monday (16 September) at a conference in Barcelona, reports the Wall Street Journal. …

I’d rather keep Catalonia and dump the rest.
Barcelona is very nice!

Catalonia could break away, then apply for EU membership, and would be accepted.

Everybody else is accepted eventually.

Nonsense article.

They’re moving Catalonia? Technology is great but I’m not sure if you can move a geographical location without some help from Mother Nautre.

It’s connection to Spain is the only thing keeping it from tipping over.

IMHO, many Europeans, especially in the “South” have a real third-world mentality. Catalans supposedly dislike Spain, but I would bet $100 they have a warm and fuzzy feeling for the EU. They get tired of one dictator, and simply look for another to replace the old one. With that lot, if its not the Fascists, then its the Communists.

Problem is that Spain can veto Catalonia's application - and the Spanish government has said it will do so.

Personally I wold have seen this as a gift from the Spanish people to the Catalans, but I'm not sure they see it like that.

The EU does its utmost to replay the 1930s. Here comes the Spanish Civil War.

More better to get out of EU....Catalona should do it

Free Trade Communist Globalism is a failure....and the Catalans would reap instant rewards dumping Free Trade’s worst failure...the EU

Sucks for the Scots-the SNP is far left socialist (and pro-EU), but for the people under these newly independent nations (if they make it..), Good news. Who would want to voluntarily become part of the EUSSR?

All these “independence” movements are overwhelmingly pro-EU and therefore against independence.
