Posted on 09/17/2013 9:56:05 AM PDT by sickoflibs
Tea Party leaders who have been pushing for a primary opponent against House Speaker John Boehner in 2012 for not keeping a campaign promise to cut more federal spending are getting their wish.
Tea Party activist David Lewis, a 26-year-old married father, announced Friday that he will challenge the Ohio Republican. But Lewis is mounting a protest candidacy on a single issue: Boehners support of a federal budget that provided funding to Planned Parenthood.
Lewis plans to unveil graphic anti-abortion ads on his website Monday.
Im not delusional. I dont know if I have a chance at beating the speaker of the House, Lewis told the Cincinnati Enquirer. But what I can do is show the Ohio voters that Boehner has a box full of empty rhetoric. He doesnt really vote for his convictions. Hes an establishment Republican. He doesnt believe in the Tea Party. He doesnt really believe in the pro-life issues.
Lewis doesnt live in Boehners district now; he lives in Rep. Jean Schmidt's district. But he told the newspaper that he would move there if he wins the primary.
Boehners office declined to comment to the newspaper on Lewis candidacy.

Is Bohner even going to run next year?
There ya go.
The Speaker has VM taking calls. Last week there was a staffer taking messages. Ya think, the gutless one doesn’t want to hear from We The People? I think the gutless one is reading his tea leaves for 2014, ya think?.
This guy isn’t even serious about winning.
Simply a one-issue candidate wasting our time.
If you’re going to be Tea-Party, BE TEA-PARTY! FIGHT TO WIN!
Boehner is another fallen Catholic who should be ex-communicated. Congress is full of such evil hypocrites. I hope this young man has a chance and that we still have a country by the next election.
Push the non-opposition to Obamacare and the lack of spine as well.
Be more than a one trick pony.
That is good news. But we would still end up having Cantor as Speaker possibly with Pete Sessions as chief toady.
Boehner should retire and go live with his daughter and Jamaican son-in-law.
That is the what I thought of house ‘conservatives’ symbol votes against Bohner as Speaker January 2, none of them would run for Speaker themselves.
I just saw this on Fox news.
I am wondering if come December or January Bohner will announce his retirement at end of 2014.
Maybe we can convince him to quit for some fun in the Jamaican sun.
We voters been burned enough by pseudo conservatives and I'm tired of it.
He already has a big, fat pension waiting for him. He could live at Sandals resort permanently. He obviously likes sun-bathing, so this would be a win-win for all concerned.
my recollection is that i supported this man Lewis previously against boehner; he’s not a fly-by challenger. i will do so again. i don’t think the country can stand even an ex-speaker boehner, acting as a backroom spider, continuing to pull on his crony web.
and Lewis’ stated reason for running (consistent with previous runs) is the finest reason to run against any leftist.
Yeah I think he’s going to have an even tougher time of it than I will.
Hmm. Jean Schmidt doesn’t represent that district anymore. I know, I live there. Brad Wenstrup now represents it.
Does he really expect the voters to take his single-issue candidacy seriously?
Gosh maybe Boehner won’t get 99 percent like last election. Give him some competition at least. A tea partier will be nice and since Boehner is not going to be Speaker after 2014....he said he is stepping down then new blood is a good thing.
Boehner is another fallen Catholic who should be ex-communicated.
Wow! Now why on Earth for? Get rid of him as House Member fine, but to kick him out the Church is a bit much. He has voted for all the rotten junk that Obama wanted. He should stay a Catholic.
I thought Boehner was retiring.
Man, I really jumped the gun on that one. I just read Boehner’s pro-life votes and he has been solid. I apologize and retract my comment in its entirety as far as the ex-communication statement goes.
Would I like to see John Boehner out of his leadership position? Yes. Out of Congress? Good luck with that.
Kudos to Mr. Lewis for having the courage of his convictions.
But a 26 year old single-issue candidate is quite unlikely to take down the Speaker of the House.
The entire Tea Party needs to be at Defcon 1 when it comes to taking down Boehner.
He needs too!!!!
People in OH only vote for name brands. They once elected a man named Gilligan governor because they thought he was related to Bob “Gilligan” Denver. When they found out he wasn’t they brought back the elderly James A. Rhodes.
No it isn't. If Obamacare is in the HOR budget, he's funding abortion and forcing institutions and individuals with religious and moral values against it to fund "reproductive rights", birth control, and morning after pills for all who want them.
To continue to allow the likes of him and Pelosi and the others who vote against the Church's teaching to continue to be Catholics is the hypocrisy.
IF this is the real deal... I am in for 200 bucks!
A real Tea party candidate< would be a better possiblility.
I do that all the time! Glad to see he is at least giving up Speaker. Hopefully!
Do not compare Boehner with Pelosi.
Boehner is my congrssman and I welcome the opportunity to vote for someone else.
James Rhodes was term-limited to 2 four year consecutive terms. he couldn’t run for a 3rd. Gilligan won the next election - served 4 years, the Rhodes was again eligible. he defeated Gilligan and served another 2 terms. actually tried a comeback against Celeste, but was defeated. For what it’s worth - Gilligan, who passed away a few weeks ago, was the father of Katherine Sebelius.
If he’s a one-issue candidate then wouldn’t it be more appropriate to say “Pro-Life Activist to Challenge Boehner” rather than Tea Party? Or doesn’t the media consider “pro-life” to be slur enough?
I will do so if the budget the HOR passes funds Obamacare. In fact, he's even worse. He's supposed to be on our side.
They all know to say ‘Tea Party’
Worked for Rubio.
He’s dumb enough, that’s for sure.
Boehner needs to go. If not by primary, in the general. If I lived there I would vote Demoncrat, he is that much of a quisling.
Fair enough. I just hope it does not get funded.
Bohner is the officially appointed goat to take the blame for anything that goes wrong.
He gets blamed for a shutdown, or he gets blamed for some crap CR that Pelosi approves of to deliver the votes for.
There is a reason why I was alone on this below, its just a show.
> No one will take Boners job, call your favorite pet house hero and ask him to run against him as speaker, I dare you. He will never return the call.

Get on the phone and call your favorite House member to run as Speaker and tell us what he said,

You should challenge them (your favorite house members) to oppose him as Speaker by running for it themselves now , this losing and then scape-goating whining stuff is long past old.

Dems are convinced that shutdown is a way to erase all Obama’s problems and win seats in both houses in 2014, by getting out the Dem vote in a midterm.
I wouldnt call the above a cave as Dems want to portray it.
Reid just demanded that the House pass a CR first before the Senate will pass anything (which is required anyway.) So that is what Bohner will do.
Then they go to conference......then we all know what happens
Uh yeah when I saw her name and I was like WTF, then I saw the date, this article is from 2011 about the 2012 election. This guy did run in that 2012 primary and lost 84%-16%.
The date of the article is right, there exactly 2 years from yesterday, you typed it in SOL, I'm really the first to notice? LOL.
Anyhow I thought the SOB was retiring, I didn't realize that was just speculation. BTW poltics1.com does not list any primary challengers for him yet, this election, only 1 democrat. Filing deadline for majority parties is in February.
No one posted it yet LOL
I put the correct date on it but missed that connection.
No primary opponents after all this make all the barking and threats look silly, AGAIN.
Did Boner officially announce retirement? I doubt it
The only report I saw re: Boehner was that he would step down as Speaker after the 2014 elections, not that he would resign from Congress. Several FReepers were complaining that it was a waste of money for him to run for reelection and then to resign from Congress; if that’s what Boehner said that he was going to do, then they would have raised a very good point.
This Bohner thing is a sore spot for me because no one ran against him as speaker from GOP side and NOW all the ‘stop .this ..bill from passing ’ plans depend on Bohner not doing exactly what he has been doing all along.
So Cruz says ‘dont blink’ but for bany chance of success his plan depends on Bohner being point man for a shutdown by not putting bills up for a vote that will pass with Dem votes , and we know he wont go along so the ritual chant goes
‘I cant believe Bohner betrayed us again he needs to go ‘BLA-BLA-BLA’
Back last January one of them, say Lou Gomert TX , should have challenged Boher as Speaker and ran against him on ‘I wont put any bill up for a vote that doesnt have a majority of GOP house votes’ > 110 GOP votes, or whatever, even if the government shuts down.
But none of them would so its just endless drama and complaining.
Apparently Boner has denied the speculation by former aides that he would step down. Stepping down as Speaker but staying in Congress doesn’t make much sense for him.
I can believe that he would step down but I see no reason why he would admit that right now, and I never saw an official statement on it.
If he admits it now it makes him even weaker than he is now.
I agree, how would he remain in House after being Speaker and especially after all this?
