California One Signature Away from Statewide Ban on Lead Ammo

Legislation that would completely ban lead ammunition from the state of California is sitting on Governor Jerry Brown's (D) desk, waiting for his signature to become law.

California already has a lead ammo ban in eight counties, but the Democrat-dominated assembly wants to broaden the ban to cover the entire state.

According to Fox News, proponents of the ban claim it will protect endangered species, like the condor.

**********************

NRA lawyer Chuck Michel believes the danger posed by lead ammo to condors is overstated, as well: "These condors are flocking around... dump sites. They are vultures. They also congregate around lookout towers, and there are pictures of them eating the chipped lead paint. The point is, there are alternative sources of lead in the environment which are probably the source of the lead."

Gov. Brown has until October 12 to decide whether to sign the bill.

I'll shoot at the condors with enriched uranium shells.

(depleted uranium is for wimps who are scared of "criticality incidents" in their stockpiles)

I’ll be happy to turn mine in, they might not like the speed at which they arrive, though.

Depleted uranium. Or maybe bismuth metal.

Full metal jacket works.

How about Teflon coating on the bullet itself?

And freedom of the press means “press” not freedom of ink or toner or paper.

I wonder if there is an acrylic that is dense enough.

They’ll never find my ammo now.

This is about Condors? Really?

If they gave a crap about Condors and Eagles they’d shut down the useless wind farms yesterday.

Call me naive, but I read AB-711 and I don't see where it bans all lead ammo. I see where it restricts lead ammo and a fine is incurred but only if the ammo is used to take game or non-game species or in areas frequented by the California condor.

“...nonlead ammunition, as determined by the commission, shall be required when taking all wildlife, including game mammals, game birds, nongame birds, and nongame mammals, with any firearm...”

“...(h) This section does not apply to government officials or their agents when carrying out a statutory duty required by law...”

http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201320140AB711

My read is that if (God forbid) I lived in California, I could still use lead ammo for self-defense unless the Dept of Game sets hunting seasons on criminals and defines them as game or non-game species.

I think that this bill is being hyped as doing more than the language actually states.

The protection of “endangered birds” only refers to the “cause of death”.
LEAD bullets must be banished from the earth. Bad Bad Bad
Windmill blades, chopping up birds, do not pollute either sky or earth and are blessed among environuts.

I bet copper, iron or steel poisoning would kill just as dead.

At the right velocity.

I bet wind farms kill more condors than lead bullets. BTW are the governor’s and legislature’s security guards exempt from this law? How about the cops?
