A family is seeking answers after a 95-year-old man died earlier this summer following an altercation with Park Forest police in a suburban nursing home.
Police were called to the Victory Center Senior Living Facility on July 26 after John Wrana got unruly with staff when they tried to treat him for a health issue.
Police say the WWII veteran was holding a knife and a cane when they Tasered him and shot him in the stomach with a bean bag round. He later died of internal bleeding.
"Why with at least six police officers did a supervisor authorize use of force with a bean bag shotgun against an almost 96-year-old man who was wobbly on his feet and suffering a physical and delusional episode," the family's attorney, Nicholas Grapas, said.

Cowards.... or Barney Fifes......... OR BOTH...
If they had waited half an hour, he would have gotten tired and fallen asleep.
What planet have they been living on for the last 20 years?
More LEOtards who belong in cages.
Shoulda tried a beer summit.
Mom is mentally still sharp and questions them on medications with a terse "Why do I need that?" or "Not today!"
They know we will be there daily to followup, so they just note it on her chart and move on. She is a nice, sweet lady, but not a pliable sheeple.
What kind of health issue? Wouldn’t shut up?
The idea that a World War ll veteran was dispatched by cops as if he were a rabid animal is absolutely maddening.
With the donut in his hand.
That’s a bunch of chickenshit officers no question about it.I guess a 95 year old vet was just more than they could handle.
This is clearly an overreaction, but he was holding a knife. Folks, life in emergency rooms and nursing homes can be dangerous. I’m willing to at least hear the cop out.
It seems increasingly that the taser is used as the FIRST escalation of force for even verbal resistance. Ridiculous.
Maybe dear leader is impatient and wants the death panels to be a little more proactive.
Was he holding a plastic spark? Or a larger knife? Honest, I’m probably with you, but I know about agitated and demented patients. I’d just like more info before I call a cop a stupid donut muncher.
“I guess a 95 year old vet was just more than they could handle.”
Maybe he was a Marine.
Spork. Spellcheck nuisance.
Quite a life-journey, making it through 96 years of the joys and sorrows of life only to reach a sorry end because cops apparently don’t know how to deal with a cranky old man in any way that doesn’t involve killing him.
“Police say the WWII veteran was holding a knife and a cane when they Tasered him and shot him in the stomach with a bean bag round.”
Well, to be fair to the cops, one 96 year old WWII vet with a knife and a cane could probably mop the floor with all the cops, if it came down to a brawl.
No, that last one was 104.
No, it was a 107 year old man in Pine Bluff, AR that they shot and killed. They gassed him to try and get him out of his bedroom and when he fired a couple of shots in his dazed, confused, scared state, they busted the door down and shot him down like a dog. Bet they went home that evening feeling real proud of themselves for having rid the world of another evil bad centenarian, the SOBs.
Instead the jackboots prevented the nursing home staff from re-entering the room and murdered the vet. The staff present all stated their was 100% absolutely 0 reason for the cops to take the man down in the fashion they did.
“their” should be “there”
OK. just so you know, people get tazed rather often in the ER, and dementia is sometimes the reason. That’s why I’m not quick to fly off the handle at a story like this.
Yup, those big burly 95 year old men sitting in a chair; sometimes you just have to taze em a little - maybe a beanbag round to the gut at close range to keep ‘em in line.
If he manages to kill your aged mother with his pocket knife, you’d be howling and threatening to sue. There is more to worry about about in a situation like that than you realize.
Yeah, death panels gettin’ a little pressure from commander zero to speed things up.
