Washington Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis tried to buy an AR-15 assault rifle at a Virginia gun store last week after test firing one, but the story wouldn't sell it to him, CBS News has learned.

The reason for the refusal isn't clear.

Alexis then purchased a shotgun he used in his rampage, sources tell CBS News.

Twelve people died before Alexis was shot and killed by police.

CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reports that, while law enforcement officials haven't pinned down a motive for the massacre, Alexis was clearly a troubled man with a history of angry outbursts.

He was a non-resident. That was why he was denied.

Maybe he swiped his card and couldn’t afford the AR, so he went with a shotgun instead? You can get a good shotgun for next to nothing. An AR plus accessories becomes a major money sink. Somehow AA strikes me as the kind of guy that probably wasn’t terribly attentive to his finances.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3068134/posts - Navy Yard Shooter was a Liberal Obama Supporter "

I would say things like, ‘You know, you are my brother from another mother.’ And he would say things like, ‘You’re my Italian mafia guy from New York.’ So we had things we joked about: Aaron wasn’t conservative like I am. He was more of a liberal type; he wasn’t happy with the former [Bush] administration. He was more happy with this [the Obama] administration — as far as presidential administrations. "

In just about all cases, the obvious is usually the correct reason. The shop probably refused to sell the rifle because the customer didn’t have enough green to pay for it.

I was wondering about this. I can imagine the perp saying he wants to shoot the voices in the walls, but his background check passes. What does the FFL do? Could he get sued? I could just hear him say he didn’t make the sale because he was black.

Residency ddn't have anything to do with it. Read the other posts before you repeat the media BS. If residency had anything to do with it he wouldn't have been able to purchase the Remington.
