Conservative Political Action Conference coming to St. Charles (Ted Crus will be there!)

ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI)– It may be a non-election year, but the St. Louis area is about to be in the national political spotlight.

The Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, will hold a convention in St. Charles, Saturday, September 28.

It’s bringing big-name, conservative, Republican, politicians to the St. Charles Convention Center. With those politicians come national headlines and a crowd from across the country.

The grass roots group, the American Conservative Union, putting on the event.

It’s a virtual all-star conservative parade. As with past CPAC gatherings, there may be “moments”, like Sarah Palin’s “Big Gulp” moment at the March event in Washington, D.C., that have the whole nation talking.

Republican Congresswoman, Ann Wagner of Chesterfield, will be among the speakers.

She went over the list of others invited.

“U.S. Senators, Rand Paul, Ted Crus, and Mike Lee. You’ve got our own (Missouri) U.S. Senator, Roy Blunt will be here too. There are a number of governors from Gov. Sam Brownback in Kansas to Nikki Haley in South Carolina … I think this isgreat ground for conservative and discussion about everything that`s happening, from Syria, to Obamacare to overregulation ,” Wagner said.

“I think the visibility is very interesting, because after all CPAC is very well known,” said Lindenwood University Political Science Professor, Joe Cernik.

He said the decision to hold a regional CPAC convention here was hardly happenstance.

Texas Governor, Rick Perry, is among the confirmed speakers; he’s been making a lot of news in Missouri, taking aim at the state’s tax policy in radio ads, to lure jobs to his state.

Perry’s former Republican presidential opponent, staunch conservative, Rick Santorum, who won the Missouri primary last go-round, will also be here.

With the issues of taxes and guns putting Missouri in the national focus during the legislature’s veto session last week, St. Charles is prime ground for a pep rally.

“Those sort of things are themes that Republicans like to pick up on – so if you can also tie in your national to the state, you tend to generate more voter turnout… the image, may be a better conservative here, than say, Kansas or Utah…I mean it really matters. You want to able to think you look “normal” republican, not “nutty”,” Cernik said.

“This is a great, strong, red state. We’re working to fight back and pick up some of our statewide offices… it’s good. It’s good for St. Louis. It’s good for St. Charles. It’s great for our region,” Wagner said.

A number of the people she mentioned were invited, but had not yet confirmed they were coming. Brownback, Perry, Santorum, and tax reform advocate, Grover Norquist, were confirmed.

The convention center here can only handle about 2500 people, maximum.

Grover Norquist will be there? The same amnesty-for-illegals supporting Grover Norquist?

I thought CPAC was a conservative gathering.

Don’t confuse conservatism with making money. Making money will win every time.

I’m not near MO, so I won’t be able to attend, as much as I’d like to.

BTW, you might want to correct your spelling: Ted Cruz.

I didn't post or author this article, Basil. I caught that misspelling too.

All the editors were fired in the great newspaper reductions of 1997, I guess.
