HURT: Defenselessly ‘sheltered’ as anti-gun fortress is breached
The Washington Times ^ | September 18, 2013 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 09/18/2013 1:10:22 PM PDT by Hojczyk

For those of us foolish enough to live in a crime-gripped city that summarily denies our constitutional right to protect ourselves, this week's massacre at the Washington Navy Yard pretty well sums up our insane, defenseless existence.

Our Capitol Hill neighborhood drowned in the screams of sirens as police cars, vans, trucks and armored vehicles streaked through the narrow streets at deadly speeds. The skies filled with the constant whopping of countless helicopters.

Just back from dropping off children at school, neighbors began frantically calling, texting and emailing one another to see what was wrong. The crisp morning reminded many of Sept. 11, 2001.

Police dispatched text and email alerts to residents that there was an “active shooter” at the nearby Navy Yard, just blocks from where our children play Little League Baseball. Many were dead and more injured, we were told.

Then the terrifying news: As many as two more shooters were on the loose

D.C. police concluded their advisory to residents with the same all-capital-letters admonition that punctuates every crime alert: “Do not take action.” we are given an “event” number and instructed to call 911.

Then came the latest Orwellian phrase in the “homeland security” lexicon: “Shelter in place!” So, not only are you not allowed to defend yourself against mass murderers, you are not supposed to run from them, either.

This, my fellow countrymen, is pure insanity.

The great cartoon philosopher Gary Larson once drew a panel of what he imagined a boneless chicken ranch might look like. Already flightless, the limp birds lay all about unable to even raise their heads with their legs splayed out in ridiculous fashion.

That is what we are here. Flightless and defenseless. As a cartoon about boneless chickens, it is hilarious. As a way of life, it is terrifying.

Captain of the USS Cole forbade live ammo on deck:

AFTER the explosion, while there was another terrorist Zodiak visibly still tooling around there to finish them off.

The gun crew that ran up there had to menace them away with an EMPTY weapon, per orders of the Captain.

They were dumb-founded at the stupidity.

Cower in place. That’s what our government wants us to do.

For it is written in The Book Of The Won:

Thou shalt hear each of the words that issue forth from the mouth of The Won, for he has been given a voice to speak words of comfort and slumber;

And the Sheep shall believe all the words which proceedeth from The Won, and proclaim Who is like unto The Won, who is able to make war with him?

Despite the individual crime related shootings in Detroit, its unlikely that there will ever be a mass shooting of this type there. There are just too many guns in too many hands both legal and illegal. A mass shooter wouldn’t last 10 seconds in Detroit.

There once was a time in our history when Americans were
known for being tough, shrewd and hard to get the best of.

But don’t expect Liberals to understand. They are so intensely brainwashed that they’ll never see the failure of the gun control policies.

It should now be obvious to our enemies that a Mumbai style attack on DC would overwhelm the city. Six gunmen could grind all traffic and the govt to a halt by hitting 3 targets at the same time. This response was uncoordinated and chaotic.

I remember being in a classroom in a single story building during an earthquake. As the building rattled I decided to leave the room through a window to get into the parking lot where only a large hole in the ground could hurt me.

The teacher told me it was too dangerous and I should stay inside. I told him my safety was my responsibility and I was taking said responsibility.

Ultimately, anything the authorities say in such an event is merely a suggestion to me. Don’t get me wrong. In an environment where both sides have gungs and the authorities have a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later, I just may comply.

Here is an excerpt from “The Damn Few: Gun Control” as narrated by Rhino:

“It exists because without weapons, all you can do is hope that armed men will be fair and honest. Well guess ******* what? Hope is not a plan, and when people use it as one, they tend to end up taking it up their fourth point of contact.”

“No matter how hard we try, we can’t legislate away danger. There will always be bad men in the shadows, there will always be murderers, and rapists, and boy bands. There will always be terrorists. There will always be men who just want to watch the world burn. Even if you outlawed every gun on the planet, those men will still have them.”

“Shelter in place” works much better with a gun than without one. Much, much better.

I discussed this type of situation with a coworker yesterday. Rather than ‘shelter in place’ with a shooter in the building, I would hop out my first floor window.

He told me that might not be a good idea - the herd of swat and police holding coffee cups outside the building might just shoot me.

So I’ve sharpened all my pencils, as they’re all I’ve got to defend myself with.

Sheltering in place without a weapon is to cower in fear. With a weapon is to be in a secured position.

We usually have one village police officer on duty and have to wait for a sheriff or state trooper to get here if there's an emergency.

First week of school, my daughter's entire school was put on “lockdown”. They couldn't leave their classes and doors (including classroom doors) were locked. Some idiot had called in a “threat” is all we have been told.

The boys started speaking up first, telling the teacher “if we hear gun shots we're not sitting here” and the teacher repeated they were suppose to stay seated until the “lockdown” was lifted.

Fortunately, nothing happened but the class had already made plans to use the fire escape window to get out if a gunman approached, and how to quickly move a large piece of furniture in front of the door to afford more escape time. The fastest kid in the class volunteered to be the first out the fire escape to run as fast as he could to see if it was safe down there. The girls were in on the plan, to, but chivalry is not dead as the boys said they would help the girls get out first.

The teacher said even if there's gun fire, the plan is to stay seated. One kid told her then you can stay seated next to the door and keep look out while we get out.

100% correct, Bill. I prefer to call it, "Garrison in Place" or "Barricade in Place."
