Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

Time For A Change

September 19, 2013

Many believers long to spend daily time with God, praying and reading His Word. Ironically, they are often distracted by a busy schedule. Frustrations mount as busyness seems to crowd out an opening in their schedule.

Oswald Chambers has wisely commented on the transforming power of even 5 minutes in the presence of the Lord. Indeed, even a short time spent in intercession and the Word still has great value: “It is not the thing on which we spend the most time that moulds us, but the thing that exerts the greatest power. Five minutes with God and His Word is worth more than all the rest of the day.” Now, it may sound like Chambers has made an overstatement. Yet powerful results can come from even a short time of prayer, because God is powerful.

Sometimes our days are filled with busy demands that crowd out time spent in listening to and responding to God. But no matter where we are, any time taken to build our own spiritual “altar” to the Lord as Abram did (Gen. 12:8) opens the door to His transforming power. If you are having trouble establishing a time with God, you could start with just 5 minutes and see where it leads. Our God longs to meet with us and show His power in our lives.

Lord, it’s amazing to me that You, Almighty God,
would want to spend time with me! Thank You.
I stumble with my words at times but am in awe of
You. Thank You that You want to hear from me.
Talk with God—He wants to hear your heart.

Read: Genesis 12:1-8

There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. —Genesis 12:8
Bible in a Year:
Ecclesiastes 1-3; 2 Corinthians 11:16-33

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...a good day? Good commutes?
New timing working well for you?

Slammed today!!! I ran out of time to make corrections. I let some just go through as is because that’s the way they were entered. I try to fix as many of those as I can but....oh well. And this new system is S L O W !!

I’m staring at a desk filled with papers. Tomorrow is soon enough to figure out what they are and where they go. And I feel like death warmed over with a horrid head cold and coughing.

Been fighting off “it” for more than a week. Last Friday the 4 of us were talking at work and ALL of us were fighting something all week long. One went home early Friday, one was out Monday, one only came on Monday because she was afraid the Friday sickee might still be out (one of them needs to be around).

But this is payroll and the show must go on, especially as we learn the new system. So, we walking wounded, carried on. By the time I got home Monday I had all I could do just to roll into bed. Last night with homework was challenging with such a short attention span. I made it thru today, and think I may have turned the corner. I will live!

Full moon viewable here for the last couple nights. Probably not tonight...overcast and rain off and on.

A funny story...Sunday night my Mom calls from her chair in front of a nice big window where she loves to sit and look...and feed the squirrels, the blue jays, and a bunch of little birdies.

“Hurry...there’s a helicopter close and getting closer (keep in mind that she has macular degeneration, reads large print books with a magnifying glass, and straight ahead is her most difficult “seeing” area).” I rush out...I see something thru the tree branches. It is big, but very round, and not moving that I can tell. I took binoculars out on the front porch....it is the MOON! Huge and looking like it is on our street, and just rising out of the tree branches. It was really cool!

And I forgot to mention - on my way out the front door this morning, I was greeted by a stunningly beautiful Harvest Moon low in the Western sky. The air here has been crystal clear the last several days and the temps in the 70's - too bad I'm stuck inside! :)

It nearly took my breath away when I saw it as I walked out of the church building last night. That was cool that it was so bright your mom thought it had to be a plane coming close. I’m sorry she has that eye condition. My aunt has it, and it’s so frustrating for them. Although she still cooked! Until they had to move into assisted living for my uncle’s health.
