Lee, Cruz, Rubio Praise House Bill to Keep Government Open, Defund Obamacare
www.Cruz.Senate.Gov ^ | Wednesday, September 18, 2013 | Ted Cruz

Posted on 09/18/2013 8:35:23 PM PDT by SoConPubbie

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) praised House Republicans for proposing a spending bill that funds the federal government, prevents a government shut down, and permanently defunds Obamacare:

“Today’s announcement by Speaker Boehner is a victory for the American people,” said Sen. Lee. “For months, Americans have been telling Washington to fund the operations of government but also protect them from the harmful effects and unfair implementation of Obamacare. The spending proposal the Speaker put forth today shows that if the American people are united, Washington does listen. We encourage the House to approve this legislation quickly and I applaud Speaker Boehner for his leadership on this proposal. Then it will be up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to pass this measure to fund government and defund Obamacare.”

“Today's announcement that the House will vote to defund Obamacare is terrific news,” said Sen. Cruz. “Just a few weeks ago, this was deemed impossible. We commend House leadership and House Republicans for listening to the people and for taking decisive action to stop Obamacare, the biggest job-killer in America. Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so. At that point, House Republicans must stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people. President Obama has already granted Obamacare exemptions to big corporations and Members of Congress; he should not threaten to shut down the government just to deny those same exemptions to hard-working American families."

“The American people have made clear they want Washington to keep the government open but also need protection from Obamacare’s harmful effects,” said Sen. Rubio. “Today’s announcement would accomplish what the American people have been asking of Congress. A solution is within sight in order to avert another crisis of Washington’s creation. President Obama and his allies in Congress should abandon their threats of shutting down the government and instead work with Republicans to pass this proposal that would keep government open while preventing taxpayer dollars from being used to inflict Obamacare’s damage on people’s jobs, incomes, current health plans and doctor relationships.”

Rubio is an opportunist chump busy body and poser who would grant amnesty and the Franchise to a horde of illegal aliens, taking jobs away from and depressing the wages of REAL AMERICANS

Term Limits could dispatch this degenerate creep quickly, he obviously has never held a real job in his life, and intends to reside in the Senate for 50 years.

I don't get it! Why would any politician, whether Republican or Democrat, support a 30 hour work week? An excise tax of 40%? An increase of IRS agents by 16,000 who will come after YOU? An employer penalty of $2,000/employee vs the cost of insurance of $10,000/employee (Wonder which the employer will chose)? A medical instrument tax?

Make Democrat Senators vote for this! I double dare them. I hate 2 legged mice as much as I hate 4 legged mice. Until today, the House RINOs acted like mice. Dammit, Senators! Stand up for your damn beliefs. You MAY go down with the ship, but you WERE going go down the other way anyways. Show some damn character.

Just pointing out that Rubio is a degenerate poser that could easily vote to fund Obamacare if he thought it would keep him in office.

His allegiance is to Hispanics that will vote for him.

He's a twerp.

Because in the minds of Boehner and Cantor, this is a setup.

I believe that both ideologically speaking, and strategically speaking, these two scum-bags, and I use that term, IMHO, in the correct, non-hyperbolic sense, are firmly against defunding Obamacare.

Nevertheless, I also firmly believe, that they will have to succumb, if enough pressure is applied.

I’m a little sick of the attacks on Rubio here. Some people evidently disagree with his position on immigration - but in many cases, I think they don’t even know what it is (he wanted a sort of piece-by-piece reform of the system) - but there’s certainly nothing else they could find fault with him on, if they’re honestly examining his positions. And he is an excellent, intelligent speaker who does not talk down to his audience.

Personally, I think the Dems are working hard to sow dislike of Rubio among conservatives, because the Dems perceive him, quite rightly, as a threat.

why are some House republicans see this speech as a surrender? -
“House agrees to send #CR to Senate that defunds Obamacare. @SenTedCruz & @SenMikeLee refuse to fight. Wave white flag and surrender,” tweeted Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.).

“So far Sen Rs are good at getting Facebook likes, and townhalls, not much else. Do something...,” tweeted Rep. Tim Griffin (R-Ark.).

So Senators Cruz and Lee state the obvious, and the so-called conservative patriots in the House take him to task?

What a bunch of girlie-men.

Senators Cruz and Lee are correct that where this gets stopped is in the House.

Lest we forget, they control the purse strings, the Senate doesn’t.

Furthermore, instead of attacking Senators Cruz and Lee, maybe these House members could focus on not capitulating under any circumstances and forcing Boehner to refuse to surrender as well.

Nawwwww. That would be too simple and straightforward, right?

I don’t believe that you can filibuster a budget resolution in the senate.

Cruz seems to think so

Fellow Republicans have spent a few days battering the "defund" movement, insisting that it's a waste of time—no way you get the Senate to agree to it, no way you get the president to sign it. Cruz's first strategic answer to this was insisting that the CR could be filibustered, "if we hold 41 Republicans." They didn't need a majority. "The model I would turn to is the battle over guns," said Cruz, a battle that ended in a Republican victory even though most senators voted for a background checks bill.

“these establishment men?”

I wondered too so I went to http://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/sean_duffy/412488 and also the same site for Tim Griffin.

Tim Griffin shows up pretty far right while Duffy shows just a little bit better than Collins. That site is pretty interesting as they place red dots in a cluster on the right and blue ones on the left so you get a visual of where each one is relative to the rest. The dot placements are based on all of each person’s votes.

I found it interesting that Duffy (Wis.) personally attacked Cruz and Lee (but NOT Rubio) in his twitty tweet while the much more conservative Griffin complained about “Sen Rs” in general not doing much.
