Poll: Republican voters have embraced libertarian values

The libertarian philosophy is taking the Republican Party by storm, according to a poll conducted by FreedomWorks, a DC-based grassroots service center with over 6 million members.

With Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) and many other liberty-minded politicians gaining influence, libertarianism has generated new interest inside the Republican Party, much to the chagrin of the GOP's political establishment....

"FreedomWorks' poll shows that 42 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of the word ‘libertarian,' and only 10 percent don't know the word, compared to 27 percent who don't know nationally," they added.

And the term "libertarian" may still turn off some Republican voters, the basic message of the philosophy earns significant favor. The poll found that 68% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents agree with the statement that "individuals should be free to do as they like as long as they don't hurt others, and that the government should keep out of people's day-to-day lives."

What's more, an eye-popping 78% of Republicans consider themselves to be "fiscally conservative, but socially moderate," which is a significant finding given the debate in the GOP on social issues.

Looking outside of just the Republican box, the poll found that 66% of respondents consider themselves to fiscally conservative and socially moderate.

These numbers show that the libertarian message is appealing, not only to Republican voters, but also to all Americans; further advancing the case for conservative-libertarian fusionism as a way to promote free market ideals, limited government, and personal liberty....

Hell I had one guy tell me to make incest legal , under age sex legal

Pedophilia is a social position that the libertarians have dealt with a little, and so far, their only action was to vote against taking a stand against it.

So their vote so far, is, pro-pedophilia.

I am personally socially conservative but I don’t think these issues are any of the government’s business. What party does that put me in?

The Ted Kennnedy/Rino party of "I'm personally opposed to abortion/gay marriage, whatever, but.........".

All the venom here from conservatives for a group of people who, if were somehow put in power tomorrow would commit the horrible act of....leaving people alone unless they were harming somebody and expect the same treatment in return. Seriously, folks, if you can’t find common cause with people who want nothing from you but to be left alone, you better get used to being a very unhappy minority because it’s not like there are any groups out there knocking others out of the way to stand with you.

Abortion is the strong killing the weak. I oppose that always.

Also the Kennedys and the Rinos want to control everything, which as I said, if you’d listened, is exactly the OPPOSITE of what I favor.

Re: “66% of [ALL] respondents consider themselves to be fiscally conservative.....”

This poll is useless.

Two years ago, total government spending in the USA almost reached the same level as in World War 2.

Then, the 66% of voters who claim to be “fiscal Conservatives,” went to the polls and reelected Barack Obama.

This is just one more example of people stealing the “Conservative” label when it suits their vanity or their political purpose.

Socially moderate Republicans are silent when business owners are punished for practicing their faith. Guess being Libertarian only matters when it means supporting gay rights.

I did listen to what you said and how you accept the position of Ted Kennedy and social liberal rinos, by claiming to be against leftist social liberalism while you promote the idea to conservatives to live and let live politically, to take the Ted Kenndy/rino position of “I’m personally opposed to abortion/gay marriage, whatever, but.........”.

I think we should all get along too, so libertarians will have to drop their positions on drugs, borders, gays and age of consent and join us.

See, they would never accept that. Why should we?

We are supposed to throw out God given quidelines on how we are supposed to live and replace it with "as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else it's fine".

And then we are supposed to just accept their definition of "harm" as well.

When I tell you something and you parrot back the exact opposite, that is either not listening or simple bad faith.

I am actually giving you the benefit of the doubt by accusing you of not listening.

Only a couple more years of witch trials before the guardians of republican purity start begging the unclean for their votes.

A lot of Republicans I know are no longer calling themselves that. We’re Conservatives! The Republicans currently in DC are gutless except a handful.

When Libertarian leaders are silent when business owners are legally harassed by gays then my guesses about Libertarians are right.

Libertarian/rino double speak, "I'm personally" but....., let me spread the message to you conservative activists to stop fighting for conservatism, adopt my libertarian/rino position of pretending to be against X, but taking a stand against fighting against X.
