You might get a few owner operators with excess money but the vast majority of truckers are driving someone else’s truck and don’t see prison as a viable plan.

Not to mention, harvest season is approaching. You expect a trucker to take time off for this? Good luck.

Truckers don’t usually have the luxury of taking part in strikes. Doesn’t feed the family very well. Especially when you don’t OWN the truck. I have a friend who drove and loved it but didn’t make a whole lot.

The company my uncle works for would shut the truck down by satellite if he got more than 20 miles out of route with no sign of stopping.

Less than 10% of truckers are owner operators.
So immediately 90% aren’t going to hijack their employer’s rig to go to DC.

Of the o-o’s, most are struggling to make ends meet financially. Days of revenue lost and $4/gal fuel mitigate against trips to DC.

I know a guy who got lost looking for his delivery address. After circling the ChiCom Embassy for the third time the Mother of All SWAT Teams descended upon him.

Yep! Know what you are sayin’. Mrs. RQSR has been truckin’ CSR for a major truckload hauler for 28 years full time, and was with them seven years part time before that. 35 years knowing what the heartbeat of truckin’ sounds like.

What strike?

Well I hope they get their message across loud and clear.

It does bring to mind a night at a Holiday Inn in Dubuque IA where I was having a good friendly debate with a liberal.

Sitting next to us were a group of union truckers using the “F” word at least once per sentence and raging on GWB because all he cared about was oil.

I did not even have to say a thing to my liberal friend as he just shook his head and said, these guys make it hard to argue my side.

I said, it sure makes me wonder what all their trucks run on if they hate oil so much.

corporate trucker friends of mine have heard nothing about this. besides, the schedules they are on would not allow them to get out of the process, especially since they’re driving company trucks

“Corruption” is too wide a target. Without a more specific target, a trucker strike will just hurt America without accomplishing anything.

I have a dear friend who is a trucker, and while he is 100% with us in viewpoints, I sure doubt he can take the inevitable firing that would occur if he disobeyed his company’s dictates and went to participate in this.

I hired a truck that was loaded this morning in Baltimore and ready to roll at 0930 and heading to Pine Bluff, AR.

The Maryland permit was requested yesterday at 14’-7” tall. When the truck was loaded it measured 14’-4” so the permit request was ammended for that and issued with a requirement that it be physically measured by an MD State patrolman before leaving the load point.

Only took him three hours to get there and finally rolling at 2:00 but only went 19 miles all day and had to stop for DC rush hour curfew and can’t travel move again 9:00 in the morning because of more DC curfew.

Got to be hard for a truck driver to make a buck sitting still and I need my shit in Arkansas two days ago.

Less than 10% of truckers are owner operators.

That would be about 200,000 semis. 10% of that would be 20,000 trucks.

That could slow down DC a little.

Whattaya say we support whoever is willing to make this great sacrifice?

As a trucker I would support them but the bottom line is it isn’t up to them, it’s up to us all

Indies with the will and wherewithal could make an impressive parade (or convoy if you wish to call it that). Not corporate truckers. I’d say why not cover their trailers with signs. A semi is a traveling billboard like nothing else, and yet most of them just have mundane logos on them.

While I support this 100% it really isn’t feasible. Owner operators are usually leased to a larger company. Even though many don’t have forced dispatch it is not to your advantage to turn down aload, both financially and your standing within the company. Very very few, if any, OO’s gypsy every load anymore. Small companies with 50 trucks usually have contracts to get commodity X from point A to point B on a regular scheduled basis. If company A doesn’t do it they are in breach of contract and there is Company B C D and E ready to step in and do it. This is no way the major companies, Swift, J. B Hunt, Schnieder, to name of few are going to go along with it

Trucking is regulated by agencies that don’t have a clue about what the industry is all about. Hours of service regulations that don’t make sense is just one example. Safety ratings, licenses, permits, on road inspections, idling regulations and on and on. Now there is pending regulation about GPS and on board electronic logging. Trucking has a legitimate b*tch with government regs but it is such a cut throat business no one stands together.

That fact is that if 20,000 trucks strike there are 40,000 waiting to take those loads.

Big difference between the bikers and the truckers.

I remember them helping out with the blizzard. That was a good thing. I was at WVU majoring in ag business. They laid over and gave a program where they lit diesel in a dish an lit ethanol in a dish to show how clean and efficient it was

They were asking for parity. Amazed it is all coming back now. College in the 70’s. Well.....

I agree with Cork. This strike is a non-starter.

I drove for Comcar in the 1990’s between National Guard gigs. Every summer, in July like clockwork, there was talk of a great wonderful wildcat truckers strike.

The union drivers laughed. The company drivers kept quiet and went on driving. The owner-operators yelled “Go on and strike, more freight for me!”

It’s a lot of smoke, that’s all.

We’ll see where it goes. If 10,000 show they could easily shutdown DC by closing the beltway.

I rode in the 2 Million Bikers to DC and estimates now are between 1.2M and 1.5M. Not bad for a months worth of effort.

Be nice to see 500K truckers, 1m Bikers and the Tea Party get together in DC for a couple days.

Shut the city down, take over congress and stop government would be a “civil” war. If that doesn’t work, break open the trucks arm the bikers and take back America.

Reginald Denny recovered at his brother's house just around the corner from us....he'd just bought a brand new dually truck with vanity plate: IBA RIOT

He'd kinda wander around with a goofy grin, and his head had some significant dents in it.....hope he got totally well.
