Also, recently, some gun rights organizations have run ads against him because of his votes (I think) and rumor has it (haven’t verified it but have heard it) he has donated to Obozo....just throwing it out there.

It's true, he donated money to Obama in March of 2008, during the democratic primary (BTW, he didn't run for Congress until 2010). He really didn't want Hillary Clinton to win the primary in Virginia.

"The only alternative on the Democratic side was Senator Obama. Yes, I was moved by his rhetoric and by the prospect of seeing a minority rise to the highest office in our land. If we were to end up with a Democrat president I wanted that person to be Obama, not Clinton; I was not indifferent to the two possible outcomes."

I don't endorse that view -- I was hoping Hillary would win (I always thought that, if a democrat was going to be President, we'd be better off with Hillary than Obama).

But I would never give money to either candidate, nor did I participate in the democratic primary.

BTW, the stories with attacks on his donation are all from the democrats trying to get his base to turn on him in the 2010 election cycle.

He also gave money to another democrat in a house race against Randy Forbes, which nobody seems to care to ask him to explain, again before he decided to run for congress.

I don't think of him as being the most conservative guy around, but he did win back a house seat from the democrats.

On guns, Rigell appears to be willing to consider universal background checks, but hasn't done anything specifically to push any such agenda, and the one big attack against him had no basis in fact.

All his votes and positions look pretty good to me on the gun issue. I can't say I've followed him in detail. Here's a list from the "On the Issues" folks:
