"The labor market appears to be going sideways," said Robert Kleinhenz, chief economist at Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. "We see a month of improvement and maybe a month of retrenchment, and that's a discouraging story to report."

Earlier this year, California was outpacing the nation's rate of job creation, with payroll growth hovering around 2%. But since August 2012, the state has added 223,900 jobs for a growth rate of 1.5%.

"Here we are in the middle of the year ... and the economy has shifted down to second gear," Kleinhenz said.

CA citizens are flooding Texas. We are filled with dread at the prospect of the illegals and economic refugees from CA/NV fouling our nest with their Communist voting habits.

I have a relative who until this week had worked at one of the largest Law firms in L. A. All of these years he was treated on a “we cannot operate without basis”. 65 in his department alone got pink slips. Yep, the economy is doing just fine.

My nephew was one of the enormous numbers (5200 so far) of continuing layoffs at Motorola's Illinois headquarters. Get this....his ENTIRE department was moved to Warsaw, Poland and all the affected, mostly long-time employees were outta luck.

Not just CA citizens, but people are moving here from many states. I just hope they leave their liberal leanings where they come from. We have some new conservative neighbors from Nebraska.

Los Angeles County is living testimony to the fact that the scourge of illegal immigration is a huge impediment to our own financial well being. How can we ever hope to recover fiscal sanity when we just one county is forced to spend over $1.6 billion on the illegal immigration epidemic?

That’s right, over $1.6 billion.

“When you add the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year,” Department of Public Social Services Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich said in a statement. “These costs do not even include the hundreds of millions of dollars spent annually for education.”

An estimated 100,000 children plus about 60,000 illegal alien parents comes to a grand total of 160,000 people. This is just a drop in the bucket when compared to the over 11 million illegal immigrants living in America today. Consider the costs… just 160,000 of these people cost one county in California almost $2 billion a year! How much more can we afford to spend throughout the nation and 10.8 million more new residents?

From Texas, here's an update about a liberal neighbor of mine that gives me some hope.

This tee-hugging, atheist leftist from Nashua, NH has been here in God's Country (as a result of a transfer in his high-tech job) since the mid-90s and long embraced the New England liberal values of his raising. But a gradual change happened even in this guy.

Why? His high school age daughter is a cheerleader in the good tradition of young Texans. She speaks with an appealing Southern accent in contrast to her dad's (still) clipped nasal Yankee tone. And, best of all, she's Conservative and goes to a solidly Christian church! I really think she's making some headway since her dad recently (back in March) put up a flagpole on the porch with both Old Glory and the Texas flag. Well, he finally did remove that silly COEXIST bumper sticker from his car.

The rest of story is that a bunch of us got to talking with him and his family after a high school football game a couple of weeks ago. The fact that he started going to that Texas tradition of Friday night lights was the first clue of a transformation. As we chatted, he revealed that all of his hopes had been dashed by the failures of Obama, most recently the fumblings involving Syria. But the shocker came when this Yankee liberal stated that he has respect for Ted Cruz and added, "...he's what this country needs."

I really don't think he was just pandering to us. Instead, the influence of his Christian Conservative daughter has incrementally been chipping away at his long-entrenched liberalism. And the ascent of the dynamic, brilliant Ted Cruz is making even longtime liberals such as this guy come to terms with reality.

Does that fool think that there are no critical thinkers out here? I would be so embarrassed if I were a Democrat.

Probably more like 18.9%. You can bet that the MSM wouldn’t allow the same fudging of formulas in calculating unemployment if it were conservatives running the show.
