A gunman with a military-grade assault rifle opened fire on a pickup basketball game in the Back of the Yards neighborhood late Thursday, injuring 13 people and dragging the city back into the international spotlight for its violent crime problem.
At least 16 bullets were fired into Cornell Square Park around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, wounding a 3-year-old boy and a dozen other people. All are expected to survive, many with wounds to their arms and legs.
Shell casings found around the blood-soaked basketball courts were 7.62 mm rounds, which are traditionally used in AK-47 assault rifles and rarely found in gang attacks on Chicagos South Side. Though gun violence has long plagued the citys impoverished neighborhoods, offenders almost never use military-style weapons.

Gun free zones lead to shootings and deaths. The only people who don’t see that are the people who want more gun free zones.
Quick, more gun control...in...Chicag... Oh.
Second City no more! Chicago’s murder rate has to rival that of some third-world country where revolution is the national pastime. And yet, the revolution never succeeds.
The most common cause of death among young black men between ages 16-24 is murder, far surpassing that of whatever is in second place.
There, fixed it for you.
I use to like to visit Chicago but no more..I feel sorry for the normal people that have to live there..
All of Chicago has the same strict gun control laws, yet geographically, the vast majority of crime within Chicago comes from just a few areas, not the whole city.
Why? Because that’s where the criminals are.
“A gunman with a military-grade assault rifle opened fire”
Really? Select fire? I don’t know how they know that. But if it’s true, my guess is that it comes from Barry’s South of the Border Walking Guns Emporium.
“Shooting of 13 at park puts Chicago back in the spotlight”
7.62 x 39,,,,AK-47 and SKS. The whole “military grade” phrase is pathetic newsspeak for ‘gotta scare the reader!”
Doesn’t Chicago have some of the toughest gun laws in the country that would like ban the sale of such military style assault weapons? So where is the outrage about this mass shooting and calls for even tougher gun laws? Could it be that the perpetrator was likely Black and thus cannot be blamed like anyone else?
I kinda like the way the say that 7.62 is “traditionally” used........... Who’s tradition? Tribal types? “It’s part of our tradition to use 7.62 in ritual killings/woundings.” HUH? Tutsis and Hutus? Oh wait. I think they used .223 machetes. Kind like the crazy uncle joe limited edition signature series AR shotgun.
7.62 Nato (.308 win)???
7.62 X 39 Commie bloc AK 47/SKS???
7.62 X 54R Nagant/Dragunov???
Can we be just a bit specific, Here? It makes a difference, don’cha know.
Most likely 7.62 X 39.
But at this point, what difference does it make?
Obviously, the shooter was a mind-controlled assassin working for the New World Order to help push their gun control agenda.
Oh wait, he was black, and he shot black people? Never mind, then.
Not to those asshats. All they know is that any 7.62 type round can knock down telephone poles. From a mile away.
It’s all in how they (partisan media Fiditiots) parse their words.
Every time that they print their drivel they MUST be called on it; then LAUGHED at and RIDICULED for their stupidity. Finally, they must be summarily dismissed for being nothing more than irrelevant typists .
previous articles from Chicago newspapers described the assailant as “dreadlocked”.
You can make whatever you want of that.
7.62X54 aka 30.06?
