ALEXANDRIA, VA — Today, the Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) called on Senate Republicans to oppose cloture on Harry Reid's attempt to fund Obamacare with a simple majority.
SCF Executive Director, Matt Hoskins, made the following statement:
"Americans won a major victory today when the House passed legislation to fund the government without funding Obamacare, but now the debate shifts to the Senate where Harry Reid and the Democrats will try to fund Obamacare. The Democrats have a plan to fund Obamacare, but Republicans can stop it if they stick together.

I wanted to make sure everyone knows what the next step is. Republicans in the Senate must NOT vote for cloture. Ted Cruz and others can then filibuster as long as they need to.

The Senate Republicans can filibuster if they get their 41 Senators. And Boehner can pass individual bills to keep the government going and send them to the Senate for passage.

My friend, you may be interested to know that the current total signatures on the Lee/Cruz Petition at this moment are: 1,580,000 signatures. By Monday evening or late Tuesday morning the petition will pass the 2,000,000 signature level. The timing is good, because the House CR with the Defend Obamacare add-on will just being looked over in the Senate. Reid will need at least a week, or a bit more to get it to a vote in the Senate!!! By the end of next week, the petition could be approaching 3,000,000 legitimate signatures.....and hopefully lots more, if only the faithful will take the simple action to endorse the petition in massive numbers.
Remember....this excellent petition is the American people speaking to their representatives, both Democrat & Republican. Please help....the best you can. It really doesn’t matter what the senate does. Reid’s senate will never go along with Republicans. That’s a given. But the senate doesn’t even matter on this one, nor does Obama.
The real strategy is to have the Republican controlled House NOT fund Obamacare under any circumstances whatsoever.
They must reject whatever the senate sends back to them that enables Obamacare to go forward. Then they should begin passing “clean” bills to fund the legitimate and essential departments of government, one at a time.
If Reid and Obama block each one, you just continue with the next one. Let Obama/Reid say hell no we will not fund the military or whichever department the house chooses to fund next.
Keep rejecting the senate’s obnoxious attempts to amend the bills. The people will recognize and understand who the real villains really are.
But at the same time, keep reminding the people over and over again that Obama/Reid cannot unilaterally block military pay, or social security checks, or medicare payments, or funding for the post office, or the courts, or the air traffic controllers or any other “essential” government service.
If Obama/Reid carry through with THEIR threats to shutdown the government, the main thing that will happen is a whole bunch of federal employees will get laid off. Big deal.
The Republican House controls the purse strings per the constitution. Draw them up taut!!

Well, I’m glad at least a lot of other people are leaving messages! I can’t believe he hasn’t pledged to hold the line. (Well, I can believe it but wish it wasn’t so.) I really thought several years ago that he was going to be a good conservative Senator. He sure has been a disappointment.
We know for certain that every Senator, regardless of party, understands the dire effects ObamaCare will have on Americans’ pocketbooks. That’s exactly why the Senators voted overwhelmingly to exempt themselves and their staffs from ObamaCare’s ravages.

So we are supposed to filibuster the bill that defunds obamacare, because if we don’t, after it goes to a vote Reid will add Obamacare funding.
But if the Senate passes no bill, the government shuts down. You have to let the Senate vote for SOME bill, or else nothing gets funded.
How do you plan to get a funding bill without obamcare, if you will block a vote on a funding bill without obamcare?

I’ve just heard on the news and the internet that there is a widespread attack on Senator Ted Cruz being led by REPUBLICANS in DC.
This for me was the final blow to my intelligence and my dignity. By God above, I’m an American and a Conservative. And the very party which is supposed to value my ideals and beliefs to cannibalize one of its own for standing on these very principals is nothing if not outrageously beneath contempt.
I’ve just written to the GOP, not that they give a damn, informing them that I’m registering as an Independent. And I intend to do so tomorrow morning, in person, the minute the doors are unlocked.
Thanks FR for allowing me to voice my despair as what has happened to the party of my President, Ronald Reagan. One day maybe the GOP will come back to Conservatives. I highly doubt it though.

Individual calls do matter. The Senators are afraid that, although you’re just one person, you might influence your friends, relatives and others. So, in reality, you’re a force multiplier! They will take note.
IIRC, about the worst that will happen is they will get paid retroactively (paid vacation, only it doesn't count against their vacation time). I believe that happened before.
