As the Obama administration embarks on a highly visible diplomatic overture to Iran, White House officials are engaged in a quieter, behind-the-scenes effort to reassure Israel that they will not fall for the charms of Irans new president by prematurely easing pressure on his government to curb its nuclear program. Multimedia Feature Timeline on Irans Nuclear Program
In private conversations with Israeli officials and a few public statements, administration officials have emphasized that they remain skeptical of Irans intentions on the nuclear program, and that they will judge Iran by its actions, not by the conciliatory words of its newly elected president, Hassan Rouhani. In advance of his arrival in New York next week for a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Rouhani has signaled a willingness to negotiate an agreement over the future of Irans nuclear program.
But the White Houses reassurances did not prevent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel from issuing a harsh condemnation of Mr. Rouhani this week, presaging a potential showdown with President Obama over how to deal with Iran, after a period in which the two leaders appeared finally to be in sync.

These megalomaniac sociopaths will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, no amount of two-pronged approach of incentives, sanctions will deter them from what they want most, that which will allow them to achieve their goals with impunity and dereliction, in a manner in which would deem them invincible. This is the very make-up of megalomaniacs, to achieve maximization of power in any way possible, one which the acquisition of nuclear weaponry represents the very pinnacle of.
But Obama won't approach the Iranians in this manner. I remember the sense of incredible naivete felt by most Americans when Obama during the 2008 campaign made it clear of his intentions to meet with the Iranians in working out the problems regarding the Iran's nuclear plans and his belief that a deep bow, some intense boot-licking, a smile, a friendly hand shake will make it all go away,
Obama just doesn't realize the sense in which Iran more than anything covets nuclear weapons in achieving a semblance of invincibility by allowing a more reckless, adventurous foreign policy posture.
America striving to reassure Israel (of what?) isn't worth anything.
Lets get it right next time...

The New York Times is like reading the Pravda from planet Klingon. It has very little to do with the real world we inhabit, aside from some rather amazing distortions and disambiguations.
I object to reaching out to a lying administration that would use axes on their young protesters

An Israeli settler says Obama demands Palestine deal for Iran
Philip Weiss on September 18, 2013
[snip] He said my journalist friend was wrong, it was an anxious time for settlers. Kerry really wants a deal. Obama wants a deal. Netanyahu was under huge pressure, because of linkage: the U.S. wont do anything on Iran, which wants to destroy us, unless the Israelis give in on a Palestinian state. So there was a good chance of a handshake on the White House lawn, of settlers forced from their homes. The settler community was organizing against the fear. The national referendum on ceding land could stop a deal. (Ben Caspit at Al Monitor says the same thing about a deal: the settlers believe Obama and Netanyahu have agreed, Iran for Palestine.)
