The battle for voting rights is just the beginning, says Holder

Attorney General Eric Holder said Friday that the Justice Department will continue its efforts to protect voting rights in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision which gutted the Voting Rights Act earlier this summer.

During remarks to the Congressional Black Caucus, Holder explained that the lawsuits filed to stop Texas’s discriminatory redistricting and voter ID laws are “just the beginning.”

“Thanks to the hard work of our Civil Rights Division, we are continuing to refine and re-focus current enforcement efforts across the country,” he said. “And while the suits we’ve filed in Texas mark the first voting rights enforcement actions the Justice Department has taken since the Supreme Court ruling, they will not be the last.”

It is really a shame our gov can’t work on real problems this nation has rather than make-believe problems.

The most political and corrupt DOJ in history. Holder should be in jail, not running the DOJ

Many here have espoused a valid response. Make legal voting and gun ownership rights the same across the board.

I like it.

Holder's goal is to F-up any upcoming elections. 2014, 2016......he is messing around so dems. will have a greater chance at winning.

I'm not sure dems. can run without election corruption and win as many seats as they do.

Just sayin'.................

We need to feel sorry for Holder and commit him to the asylum. He basically admits to being of lower standards. In Germany people self declare themlves insane in those situations.

The States should COUNTER SUE Eric Holder for FILING FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS because the SCOTUS ALREADY RULED STATES’ VOTER ID LAWS CONSTITUTIONAL in April 2008.

Fraudulent voting IS a real problem, for Democrats and if Obama is to be given half a chance to really "remake America," Obama is going to need to retake the House and up his numbers in the Senate.

To accomplish that, he needs fraudulent voters not voter ID, which he calls, "voter suppression!"

Though, given the total wimps we have now in the Senate, if Obama has the House in 2014, he'll steamroll the Senate and he will have "remade America" in his own image!

This crowd will never leave. If anyone even close to a patriot gets elected Holder and a lot of others would end up in prison. They’re not going to allow that to happen.

To: Tailgunner Joe; All

At this point in time, Holder is talking about a political war with the states concerning voter photo ID rights that he probably cannot win.

Normally, citizens would work with their federal and state government representatives to comply with the Constitution’s Article V, the amendment process, to propose a new rights amendment to the Constitution, in this case a voting rights amendment. Such an amendment would protect citizens from having to present a valid photo ID before being allowed to vote.

More specifically concerning Article V, Holder needs to encourage Congress to propose an appropriate voting rights amendment to the states for ratification. And if Congress agrees and the Article V state majority chooses to ratify such a proposed amendment inspired by Holder, then voters wouldn’t have to present photo ID to vote and Holder would be a hero. Such an amendment would add to the four voting rights amendments which the states have previously ratified to the Constitution.

The problem is that since the Obama Administration is already fighting RINOs in Congress, and also many states concerning Obamacare, immigration, labor and environmental issues, etc., there’s probably no way that the states will ratify a photo ID rights amendment. After all, there are consequences when the Executive Branch repeatedly burns bridges with Congress and the states by blatantly ignoring the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers.

Finally, as a side note about new constitutional amendments, please consider the following about Obamacare. Corrupt Congress wrongly ignored its Article V requirement to first petition the states for an amendment to the Constitution which would have granted Congress the specific power to address healthcare issues. So Congress not only drafted the Obamacare bill without having the consent of the Article V majority states to do so, but Obama then irresponsibly signed the bill into law. What a mess! :^(
