Senate GOP Con Job: Opposition to Obamacare
National Review ^ | 9/22/2013 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 09/23/2013 5:59:05 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

When he wasn’t calling for aid to the jihadi-jammed Syrian rebels this week, Senator Bob Corker was blasting fellow Republican Senator Ted Cruz over the pressure the latter has put on GOP lawmakers to defund Obamacare — pressure, that is to say, to match Republican election-season posturing with real action.

Politico reports:

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) on Thursday took a whack at Cruz over social media for leading the charge to push Republicans to back only spending bills that defund Obamacare, which many in his own party have predicted will result in a government shutdown blamed on Republicans.

“I didn’t go to Harvard or Princeton, but I can count — the defunding box canyon is a tactic that will fail and weaken our position,” Corker said, a clear reference to the Harvard- and Princeton-educated Cruz.

Corker obviously didn’t need an Ivy League education in order to master the ways of Washington. Just six months ago, he liked Cruz’s “defunding box canyon” so much, he voted in favor it. All Senate Republicans did.

Byron York has the story at the Examiner. Back on March 13, Cruz offered an amendment to the Defense Appropriations Act calling for the defunding of Obamacare. All 45 Republicans voted in favor of it. In fact, 20 of them joined Cruz as co-sponsors. With a possible primary challenge on the horizon, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell even made a point of letting the base know:

I want to thank Sen. Cruz for offering this amendment. . . . I strongly support his efforts. . . . We need to get this bill off the books and straighten out our country. This would be a big step in the direction of achieving that.

Sure it would.

Byron adds:

Indeed, some Republicans who are vehemently opposed to the defunding gambit today voted for it in March. North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, for example, has called the current defunding proposal “the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.” In March, Burr not only voted for defunding; he was a co-sponsor. Another Republican, Sen. Tom Coburn, has denounced the current defunding move as “dishonest” and bound to fail. In March, Coburn co-sponsored the Cruz amendment. [ACM: See Eliana’s post describing Coburn’s Sunday Show explanation that the defunding initiative he co-sponsored only six months ago now suddenly “can’t be done” … followed by his grousing, without a hint of irony, about “the crisis of confidence in our government.”] Other Republicans — Sens. Johanns, Johnson, Chambliss — who now say defunding won’t work were also co-sponsors of the Cruz defunding measure in March.

The change has left some of today’s defunders bitterly resentful of their colleagues and former allies. In private conversations, they complain that their fellow Republicans were with them when voting for defunding was easy but have run away when everything is on the line...

This is the Washington political class in sharp relief. The Republican establishment resists President Obama and his agenda only when it knows that resistance is futile, token and sure to be inconsequential — when it’s good for a campaign commercial about how hard the GOP is working to undo Obamacare, not when it’s about actually working hard to undo Obamacare. For most Senate Republicans, the vote on an anti-Obamacare amendment in the context of authorizing national defense programs that Republicans knew they were never going to block was a pose — just like the 40-odd votes to repeal Obamacare that had no chance of becoming law.

By contrast, the current defunding effort is a put-your-money-where-your-mouth-is moment: Risk a government shutdown over Obamacare funding under circumstances where Republicans could be blamed, but where (a) Obamacare is very unpopular and its downside consequences are just beginning to kick in; (b) the defunding strategy includes a commitment to fund the rest of government so it can be demonstrated that Obama would really be the one shutting down the government over Obamacare; and (c) Obama himself has already unilaterally and unconstitutionally defunded aspects of Obamacare, including repugnant accommodations for big corporations, Obama insiders, and members of Congress — such that, if the government shuts down, Republicans can compellingly argue that they are only insisting that the American people get the same relief from this awful law that Obama cronies, the ruling class, and the politically-connected get.

It may not work. Even if it doesn’t, though, it could have long-term benefits as Democrats up for election in 2014 and 2016 — Democrats who have gotten Obamacare fixes for themselves — are forced to defend Obamacare in the light of day. And for conservatives, it is a chance to see which Republicans are for real and which ones talk a good game as long as it’s just a game.

If the lord high self-appointed “leaders” of the Washington, D.C. Republican party were to fight representatives of the Democratic [sic] party half as hard as they fight other Republicans, the Democratic [sic] bunch would be a fringe minority party.

It’s this guys job to reflect positions of his state...not defend the central government

CITIZENS OF THE REPUBLIC IT IS TIME TO DO A RECALL

The four passenger helicopter has just left its roof top heli-pad. Attached to its steel tube runner landing gear were about a dozen desperate people hanging on as the craft struggles to get airborne. It lurches skyward as one of those clinging to the steel tubes used as landing gear lets go. Falling to a death some 75 feet below to the refugee crowded lamding pad atop the Saigon American Embassy roof.

Most of the recalling if the defunding\ shutdowns just go back mostly to Gingrich’s time when he was Speaker. There is one defunding/ government shutdown that had profound implications where hundreds of thousands died because of it. That was led by the Democrat party responding to the socialist/communist radicals that had taken over the “liberal arts eduicational industry” and were slowly taking that party over as well.

Not only did we lose a war because of it. But those same university socialist educators which encouraged this defunding also humiliation of our military such as calling them “baby killers” (only later to kill their own) and spitting in their faces. And their educational products are now destroying this country by their own R&R . Running and ruining it.

For this time the same group are now in control of that political party. Changing it so much that in their 2012 convention booed any reference to The Creator ,God.. Demonstrating any connection to the political party of JFK is gone.

All they showed is that they are Democrat in name only and really Demo-Coms. That are demanding funding for a cherished socialist concept replete with 2000 pages of controls for the health collective. Controls which includes newly created bureaucracies for enforcement some under the direct control of the President
Controls that already has ;

Put thousands out of a 40 work week and reduced them to part time employees, Shut down physician hospitals, confiscated union health plans. prohibited private contracts with individual doctors, replaced medical specialists with socialist bureaucrats (death panels) Shut down medical insurance companies, For starters...Yet not a word of this will be mentioned.

There will be the racism charge. OK ! Lets see who started that ?
Now if somebody even suggests impeachment. Get to your black base voters, whom you’ve done nothing for, all worked up. Pick on some security guard who’s doing his job.

Accuse him of being racist ,even though he is part black..But his last name sounds “jewish.”Who’s doing surveilance in an mixed race area of modest means a where there’s been robberies and burgalries by young blacks, and legal to question anyone of blue, red, green, white, or black complexion as to their purpose being there. Who discontinued a surveilance after being suggested to do so by the police.

Who could have legally questioned the person under surveilance but allowed him to continue on his way uncontested. Only to have that person under surveilance as the guard was returning to his vehicle. Knock the guard to the ground start beating his head against the sidewalk and wind up getting killed over a struggle the guards gun

Now call that surveilance “stalking”, The area he’s patrolling “owned by rich whities”,and the guard of course he’s white. That person he’s watching a 10 year old black kid a “victim” and a saint. Not six foot two 160 pound 16 year old, “who was killed in cold blood” not who got killed fighting over a gun. .

Now paint a target on the security guards back .Ain’t that neat ? What better way to discourage any investigation into malfeasance and corruption by organizing the base for riots in the streets ? Think it’s too far fetched ? Think it’s not working ? Look again http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3051558/posts

To date the political opposition known as Republican has yet to mention or comment on this example of how this regime operates. Time to ask them why ?
Now is the time to ask....

The Republican leadership was given the opportunity as they have in the past, while running the 2012 campaigns for Senate, House, and President an opportunity to spell out what was in Obamacare but didn’t http://www.theusmat.com/ or even mention Democrats had refused any reference to God in the Democratic at their 2012 convention .

Or comment on the the “Gated Community” episode which was used to furthur hyphenate; black from “hispanic,” from “white” Americans, which included Jews. Thus discarding the American Melting Pot history in favor of the socialist agenda.
Now is the Time to Comment ....

By doing this the demo-coms created a unconsionable use of the security guard incident to furthur their socialist agenda. That has resulted in martyrs because of its inflamatory assertions.. Which the political opposition ignores while claiming to search for “demographics” in other directions. And the Republican “establishment has stood by and said and did nothing. Why ?
Now is the time to ask.

Throughout this time black youths have been using these political devices as excuses to commit crimes with innocents being murdered because of the inflamatory rhetoric composed of lies and missconceptions being driven by the regime and its supporters in the media begun by the President of the United States. By his own actions Obama never disassociated himself from it, nor discouraged it.
Time to ask him why ?

The republican establishment is nervous about someone like Cruz getting so much support/power so early in his career. He is supposed to do it the old fashioned way and kiss the right butts and rings.

But their approval rating is finally costing them. The people are just not quite as stupid has they had hoped.

Andrew is absolutely spot on here! This applies to the entire political class but most importantly to the GOPe in Washington. They talk a good game when campaigning back home, get elected and re-elected then go back to Washington and do what they damned well please. This has got to stop. We have to drive a stake through the heart of the GOPe and build a new party from what little will be left.

America is being destroyed from within by it's so called political leadership and NEEDS a real alternative to the established order. We desperately need a second party!

These RINOs aren't even very smart - if they were they'd hide their obvious distain for Cruz. As it is they can barely contain themselves. Why?

Who will buy their 'I'm one of you' BS they ladle out to conservatives during their primary campaigns?

These RINOs are being outed. Nobody except their globalist traitor buddies will ever vote for them again.

I despise them more than I despise the dems even the worst ones. Why? They bare-assed lied to the voting public to get elected. We could've had constitutional conservatives in their seats; that's what the people voted for.
