~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota

Ellsworth Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base near Rapid City in Meade County and Pennington County, South Dakota, United States. It is home to the 28th Bomb Wing of the Air Combat Command (ACC), operating the B-1B Lancer.

As host wing, the 28th Bomb Wing includes an operations group, a maintenance group, a mission support group, and a medical group. The base controls all air space 40 miles (64 km) around its area, including all landings at nearby Rapid City Regional Airport, Rapid City, South Dakota.

The mission of the 28th Bomb Wing is to put bombs on target. Every Airman in this Wing, whether its maintaining its people, equipment, pulling a trigger or aiming crosshairs, puts bombs on target.

Ellsworth Air Force Base is home to the 28th Bomb Wing, which flies B-1B Lancers and serves as the host unit, providing all essential base operating support services for Ellsworth and combat support services for an Air Expeditionary Wing.

The wing consists of four groups: the 28th Operations Group, 28th Mission Support Group, 28th Maintenance Group and 28th Medical Group.

Air Combat Command is the primary force provider of combat airpower to America's warfighting commands. To support global implementation of national security strategy, ACC operates fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, battle-management and electronic-combat aircraft. It also provides command, control, communications and intelligence systems, and conducts global information operations.

As a force provider, ACC organizes, trains, equips and maintains combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime air defense.

ACC numbered air forces provide the air component to U.S. Central and Southern Commands with Headquarters ACC serving as the air component to U.S. Northern and Joint Forces Commands. ACC also augments forces to U.S. European, Pacific and Strategic Commands.

It was the curse of perfectionism. Some people have trouble being spontaneous in music. They have to have everything written out.

Which is great for the Classical orchestra, but doesn’t really work with Rock.

Hi again, Kathy! The morning commute was smooth as silk - hit the office in 40 minutes. In fact, I got there so early, I had to sit in the Parking Garage for a few minutes to catch the 7:05 call from Joe Di Genova on WMAL Talk Radio.

We're in the forties here tonight. We didn't even hit 70 this afternoon. Which is fine with me - I don't do well over 70F. I am amazed at how fast the hours of sunlight are decreasing. It seems like only last week I was contending with sun glare on the morning commute - now I'm in the Office at or before sunrise.

I hope you've had a good day at work and that the new system is starting to work right. Nothing more of a pain than lousy software!

Good evening, ML!

*HUGS*

Indeed, some classical musicians have to have things written out. Yet I had the privilege to sing in Chorus under the baton of Rafael Fruebeck du Burgos - "The Damnation of Faust." He conducted without a score.

On another occasion, we were singing "Alexandr Nevsky" with a Russian soprano, whose name I forget, who sang without notes.

Even I, a not-so-humble chorister, customarily digested the material to the point that I did not need to carry a score into the performance.

Do you think that I may possibly have the stuff to to be a Rock Musician? It's been my life's dream!

Air Combat Command? When did this change? I thought that was a SAC base when I was in. Gez, did they change the name of Alaskan Air Command too?

My day was productive....I got lots of little things done and late time or saved stuff entered.

All in all a good day.

The sun just came out here and it’s almost 40 degrees.
